I think that the main reason to why he left Inter was that he felt that he needed a break and that he knew he didn't had a fair chance because of some of the players still supporting Mourinho. He just didn't had the strength to fight another battle.

If you had read the book by Reade then you would understand my point better. Rafa had big health problems when he left us according to Reade.

He simply didn't think when he took the Inter job that it would be yet another battle with the owner about money and a battle with some players that still supported Mourinho. IMO of course.
