Di Maria has been a big disappointment but yet still has 3 goals and 12 assists in the league!! Only Cesc has more.

They'll easy get big money for him when he goes & sure he's contributed hugely to them getting into the champs league again, so they've done well out of him. He started off looking amazing, settled perfectly. For me Di Maria hasn't settled because he just doesn't want to be in Manchester or England for that matter. He was flying, got injured and then hasn't been the same since his house got robbed.

He's a quality player that wants out, big difference to what you're saying mate.

You're judging a man who's been playing catch-up all season and has been hampered the entire time he's been here. He's a good player. Overpriced but a good player. Downing wasn't. If he stays injury free and gets a good pre-season under his belt you'll see his worth.

nah not having it. He has been woeful for lfc. he had his chance against united to bury the ball.....would have got us back into the game and he got stagefright. He is a southampton player.... he came up through the leagues with them and even had a good 12 to 18 months with them in the prem.....but he aint no top class player.

Ever wonder why we had a free run at signing him?? No other top 4 team even had a look......they were too busy signing good players. Even his old manager didnt have a go at signing him for spurs.......

He's a good player and a decent signing we overpaid for him but no way should he be compared to Downing. Just shows a bias towards him imo

Brendan has taken the blame for our abysmal performances, square pegs in round holes etc, which in turn leads to players not performing at their best. Yet a player who admittedly we slightly overpaid for, has had an injury nightmare, and no pre season is getting a lot of flack for not being good enough. Baffling.

He'll be great next season with good preparation.

I dont think it is even a debate. He doesnt get in front of coutinho. No way.

He doesnt play wide in a 4231......not in front of sterling or ibe...

He doesnt play in central midfield......not good enough defensively......

His best run of form was alongside Coutinho and Sterling, so we can accomodate both in the side. He's just had a bad run of injuries which have hampered him.
Still think Markovic can do well - when played higher up.(Now he's got a haircut)

By sources I assume you mean media outlets and they in turn get their information from the clubs.

LFC never comment on fees so in this instance it's basically whatever Soton say the fee is. If you're a S'oton fan do you want to hear that the club captain went for £25m or £16m?

£25m may come into the equation somewhere; maybe by factoring in agents commission, bonus payments due to S'oton if we win trophies etc etc. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's the figure we paid to get him.

There's an article from the Bournemouth paper (which I think I once posted in this thread) which suggested that the club (who were due 25%) got £4m. IIRC there's a quote from the Bournemouth Chairman which seems to suggest that they didn't even get that, which makes me wonder if we even paid as much as £16m.

However for the purposes of slagging him off his detractors will always insist he's a £25m flop
