Only saw him at the WC but saw enough good to get a bit excited. I think he's gonna surprise a few...only a hunch, not a massively informed opinion or anything. But he is lightning quick and could cause real damage coming off the bench against tiring opposition. Tons and tons of scope for improvement. His crap last season with Lille seems to have quashed any notion of excitement about this lad but as I said I think its quite easily explained. I'll be surprised if Ings is ahead of him in the pecking order come, say, the end of next season.
You've twice said his form last season is quite easily explained but offered no explanation

Totally forgot about this kid so went back and watched the clips.

He's got some serious pace and also a big lad too. With Coutinho and Firmino being through ball specialists could we see a trio of Studge Ibe/Markovic and Origi up top? Would be a handful for any defence to counter that pace and with two little wizards threading through balls through any gaps

It's a shame the league is 11 a side and not 5. We win the 5 a side by a county mile.

He has been slagged off for his output with Lille last season, but Lille's main striker who finished the season with only one goal more than Origi has gotten praise in the french media.

Funny how the lad who is off got the stick yet the guy with one goal more but who was quick to talk up his own loyalty to the french league got the kudos.

Nolan Roux - 37 games in all comps 10 goals and 3 assists. 6.74 player rating average for the season. Got praised by French media for his goals and assists.

Divock Origi - 37 games in all comps 9 goals and 3 assists. 6.71 player rating average for the season. Lots of criticism for his lack of goals and assists.

They way I am about Origi is, if he fails I really won't be surprised & if you succeeds then I'll pleasantly surprised.

I'm not expecting a lot from him but I do think he was singled out at Lille last season.

The Lille team, Origi included, as a whole was bang average at best last season, they only managed to score 43 league goals in total, yet he seemed to be the one that the media went after time after time and even after games in which he scored or played well.

He was not their main or senior striker, and he managed to pretty much match the best of the offensive senior players in terms of goals and assists.

An awful lot of the criticism against him started after he gave an interview during the season saying that he was excited at the prospect of playing for Liverpool, and I think he became an easy target for both media and supporters from that point on despite his form being no worse really than the rest of the regulars in a very uninspiring Lille team.

I think he'll thrive, I imagine he can't wait to get to pre-season and start running about for the team that he'd been owned by for a year. Whatever about the potential benefits of a loan (or in this case the contractual obligation) it must **** with your head a bit knowing you could be at a much bigger club in a bigger league but instead you have to plod on biding ones time.

I can't see us going with 5 of Sturidge, Ibe, Markovic, Origi, Firmino and Coutinho in the starting 11 it would leave us very vulnerable defensively
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yeah Lille were horrendous to watch last season, they've been defensive for few seasons now. He's only a kid & i'm sure the prospect of playing for LFC was always on his mind.

I'm really not expecting much of the lad, hopefully we manage him well & ease him. He'll only be a squad player anyways so I don't mind so much. Would be fantastic if he progressed into a quality player.

He's been enemy number one in France since at least January when he made his feelings clear that he wanted to be released early.

Thanks for the stats that pretty much puts the missing piece of the puzzle in place. I can't wait to see him and Ibe next season.

I know it's highly unlikely for all of the reasons already listed in this thread. But imagine if he came in and it all just clicked and he got 15+ in his first season. We'd have a young striker ready to lead the line in the absence of Sturridge or alongside him for years to come. It barely ever happens but it would be a game changer for the squad.

Realistically if be pleased if he got 9 goals 3 assists again this season as a squad player. Excited to watch him as he has pace and a bit of trickery.

He's a young player with potential. He did get a hard time of it last season by the media & fans, but a player ready to start games for a top side would have handled the pressure & expectation.

He had a good season before the World Cup & impressed everyone during the tournament. Lille did well to keep him for a year on loan and much was expected. He fell a bit flat & failed to deliver.

He wasn't the only one who was below par, but t h at least a flat season has dampened expectation here a little. You feel that if he'd have had a good season we may not be signing a top striker which is what we need.

Whilst the squad definitely needs another quality frontman, I think it would be **** if Origi didn't get a proper chance to stake his claim because he won't develop if he doesn't play.

With luck we will play 60+ games. At a minimum we will play 46 games. He will get his chances.
