I think that is very harsh on him, especially also considering he is enterily new to the team and with a new manager as well.

I don't think he's movement is poor at all, he just needs to find a rhytm with the players behind him. His shooting have been the major let down, but he does find space and gets opportunities in front of goal.

Not sure he's got what it takes long term, but the potential and attitude is there I think.

I think that a lot of people with respected judgement thought there was more potential to be unlocked and I think that is backed up by looking at his scoring home versus away at Lille:

To me he looks to be a confidence player. But perhaps there are adjustments to his game that can mitigate that.

I also think part of the problem is when he is in space or makes a good run, the midfielders don't always trust him and take it on themselves, which can prove quite frustrating for him. Coutinho was certainly guilty of it on countless occasions, although to be fair he did lay it off to him in a decent position on one occasion and he ballooned it into the crowd.

I like the look of him, he has plenty of good attributes, he just needs to learn to use them. If we ever do find a system that Benteke suits, they we could have the perfect replecement/cover for him, which has often been a problem for us in the past. I'm also pretty sure that a Belgian journalist on LFC TV said Benteke was also a pudding when a similar age to Derek.

He's only now starting to get some playing time under a new manager coming to a depressing situation and with new methods. It's been a week of training, I think it's fair to cut this young player some slack.

People wanted us to bring him back from loan during last season and pay extra too. He needs polishing big time, because he's shown glimpses, but needs game time in a better league than what he had in France.
