Hopefully this will give the impetus for some decent competition for Tekkers and Sturridge. His movement was good last night and his confidence will have been given a huge boost.

He looked like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders, what a great performance. He gave a good interview too, seems a nice kid.
The more you see these players like him, Ibe, Moreno even Lovren performing way above their level under Rodgers, the more you think that Brendan actually was toxic for the squad.

One thing I did notice early on was that Origi seemed to be hiding, again, for the first 20 minutes or so. He was doing that half-arsed pressing when you slow down as you get to the man; allowing him to release it. Making runs to go in behind but not sprinting and getting away from the man; no conviction in the run so the ball would then not come to him etc.
As soon as we got ahead it was a different Origi - his runs were more clinical and for the first time since he's been here he looked as if he actually wanted the ball. His finishing was fantastic, he was throwing his weight around and also made good runs into space. It's amazing what confidence can do - at the start of the game he was being outpaced by Caulker and then fast forward an hour he's beating Van Dijk in the air

I wasn't sure about Origi from what I had seen earlier in the season, and even the hattrick could have been a one off, but I think he was very good when he came on during the game on the weekend and probably has more quality than he had shown previously.
I honestly think that if Ibe wasn't from the academy/had already been around the team he wouldn't be starting ahead of Origi, and after the game on the weekend that could well be the case. He seems like he is a level above Ibe for quality on the ball and looks comfortable out wide as much as up front.
It's also so easy to forget that he is the same age as Ibe, but already has around 80 first team caps between here and Lille. I really hope he keeps developing and gets his chance in the league rather than only with squad players in Europe.96 Never Forgotten

Good posts ^
I think the hat-trick was a little taster to what Origi could become. It had everything, a fluke, a worldie, and a good centre forwards header. He has pace and athleticism. He is very young though and has just moved to a big club for the first time, so patience is the key. Well managed and he could be a Thierry Henry type player for us, Henry's career path is one he should look to emulate as nobody foresaw the player Henry became it was really down to Wengers vision and giving Henry the space to develop. Let's hope Klopp can do similar with Origi.
The Southampton game was a tantalising glimpse, and he showed enough against Newcastle to suggest he perhaps should have been offered a bigger role in that game.Modifying post.

I am a big fan of picking players based on form, and Klopp seems to be like that, so I was surprised he didn't start ahead of Ibe against Newcastle (Lallana arguable deserved to start ahead of Ibe too). I don't think he has the frame to play upfront on his own yet, and he could probably do with a bit of bulking up, so playing with Sturridge uptop is probably the smartest way to get more quality out of him.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostGood posts ^

Having said that, if he doesn't get his chance in the league soon he might not get it at all with Coutinho Firmino and Sturridge sure to all start ahead of him you would have to think.96 Never Forgotten

Completely agree (is that allowed on hereOriginally posted by Buzzo View PostI can't think of a single way to post without it becoming another diatribe against big, bone-idle Chris. But, yes, Origi must have been flying after the hat-trick. Look at Jamie Vardy, when you're hot, you're hot but you can't score goals from the bench.
), it will be interesting to see what Klopp does midweek and this weekend.

I believe some agreement is allowed between posters on one or 2 threads. But in general it is to be discouraged as it tends to cut short debate, and ferocious controversial posting levels.
Modifying post.

Can see him starting on Thursday and getting a run. Time to push on from that hat-trick now and lead the line - away from home should suit him more as well with there being more space in behind etc.
