This is not a critisism of Matip but it's a fairly meaningless stat to be honest. We have only lost 1 PL game all season and we have conceded 20 goals in 34 games (which if my maths is correct is an average of about 0.6 goals per game). So we perform about the same whether Matip has played or not. The only this it shows for me is the consistency of our defence. As I say this is not a criticism of Matip he has clearly played his part, just shows that there are alot of pointless stats out there.

Yeah was going to type the same reply. He was accused of being unreliable in the past so this stat blows that away in my opinion.Originally posted by foresterbloke View PostI don't think it's meaningless, it shows that he can be trusted to be a part of the defence, not a liability.
Do you think having Moreno in would maintain our excellent defensive stats?Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

It only shows that because I have added a context, without the context it tells you nothing. You are not sure whether they are saying this is good, bad or indifferent, whether they are comparing Matip to other LFC defenders or the LFC defence to other teams. If that is the point that they want to make fine but the context is essential and make the point.Originally posted by SB View PostYeah was going to type the same reply. I think it just demonstrates that you could put Djimi in our defence and he'd look good next to VvD. To be fair, Matip, Lovren and Gomez are all good defenders, but none of them are leaders/organisers in the same way. VvD and a less attacking style of play / more defensive mid have made the difference this season.Last edited by Tatterdemalion; 22-04-19, 10:36 PM.Really?
