He only has 4 assists this year. I dont think he is putting in as many crosses. Not sure 350k is worth it if he is playing as a traditional rb. Plus he has been poor of late.

Id love to have top tier Trent sign, but I dont think he is right for the position he has been playing the past couple of years. I dont think he has looked any good centrally either for the way we play.

Perhaps he would be a revalation as an attacking midfielder or winger. I just see us better off with a much more defence oriented fullback.

350k is a lot of money for a fullback. Peak Klopp I thought he was our most important player at times, but can he get back to that?

              Shoula kept Neco Williams, though.

His stats for forrest are very good defensively speaking.

I think id have kept Bradley on loan. He is too good to keep on the bench and needa to develop with games, whereas I thought Neco was a perfect backup for Trent.

Not saying we should buy him back (just interesting seeing Forrest now in second) , but I thought at the time we should have kept him as backup. Obviously Bradley wouldnt have got as many chances, but I think would have broken through regardless.

Im sure we have a list of great right backs for dirt cheap prices somewhere.

Aina is their RB. Williams has only been starting last few games at left back, after not starting much last year.

Hardly a 'one that got away' situation.

He was also absolutely brutal in his first season there.

Trents ball for Salah on 76 mins today was something else - if Salah scores would be potential goal of the season. I don’t think we have another player capable of that.

I know he hasnt been starting as often, but he only has one less appearance than Trent. And he has a higher long pass completeion rate to Trent (50% to 48%, albiet far fewer attempts, but it made me chuckle).

Obviously not a top class player, but on the level Tsimikas, and good enough as a backup. I personally like to see the kids kept on a bit longer. Id rather see players like Phillips and Williams on the bench than 17 year olds when we are challenging on all fronts. Perhaps the number of injuries under Klopp indicated out squad was for too small, and maybe we have been lucky this year. Our new style of play may support a smaller squad size, but I still think we should have an extra player in each defensive position compared to what we have now.

Be interesting to see what happens when Beck get back next year (on the left). I dont think we will sell Robertson in the summer, but I dont think any of the players we do have are quite at the level we need for the whole season. I dont think we will buy a new LB unless we sell one first.

I thought he was decent enough when here too, but the fee we got for him was more than he was worth and was definitely the right decision to sell.

In terms of 3 extra defenders, I'm not sure many were saying that going into this season, unless there were outgoings. Quansah looked a mainstay in the team, with Konate and Gomez two excellent backups. We've two of the best RB's in the league to cover one position, and while improvement could be made in terms of quality at LB, we still looked well covered there too.

With Gomez probably out for the season now, I'd like us to add another CB, but I'd be surprised if we went for anything more than a loan, unless a young, genuine top class CB suddenly became available.

Sorry, was going to elaborate a bit. He'll be out for a while, but with his past injury record, he'll either pick up more niggles or struggle for fitness.

Basically, I wouldn't be putting any trust in him coming back and having a meaningful impact and would be a massive gamble for the club to do so. That's not to say he won't, but history suggests otherwise, even if his recent injury record has been much improved.
