    Absolutely

It’s a difficult one really - turning down Real Madrid is very hard thing to do, but he’s tarnished his legacy with the fans unquestionably.

Wonder if he regrets it when the new manager comes in and doesn't want him in the team

Really interested to see how this plays out for him at Madrid.

The half arsed defending will need to stop

Got to imagine there's been numerous meetings between Xabis representatives and Madrid where Madrid make it clear what players they will be bringing in this summer.

Historically Perez buys who he wants, regardless of what the manager at the time thinks - can't see that approach changing any time soon

it's a strange one being his boy hood club but money talks I suppose and everyone has their price. Personally I think someone more dynamic up and down that right flank will be very beneficial for this side. More pace throughout the entire team is and absolute must, the PSG game highlighted although we are a quality side, we can look pedestrian at times and need to adjust.

Very interesting to see how he gets on at Madrid, hope he has a mare, horrible club and his arrogance fits in perfectly there.

Really disappointing a home grown player, and vice captain, maneuvering his way out for free, we are missing out on tens of millions and need to replace him as well. A really **** thing to do and will be the way he's remembered by lots of supporters. Hope he fails miserably in Madrid.

I must be in the minority here. Good luck to the lad.

Unlike Owen and Macmoneyman TAA has at least solidly contributed to us winning the two big competitions. Good luck to him (I think he will struggle as a defensively lacking RB in another team) but I certainly wish ill luck to Real Madrid. They can get relegated.

I think he’ll regret it. LFC is the biggest club in the world to me so I don’t know why you’d want to leave.

I don’t think he needs to leave on a fee though, he’s entitled not to.

It also gives Slot an opportunity to have a more conventional modern fullback in Bradley. I think Conor can be world class if he stays fit.

There is so many political factors at Madrid, it may back fire on Trent but I think the team is as well prepared as they can be for this and VVD and Salah were the more important two of the three

Just playing devils advocate here, what exactly makes this "the coward’s way out"?

Did we really expect Trent to announce his decision to leave earlier in the season, even though most of us could sense he was leaning that way? Is there ever truly a "right" way to leave a club?

Some say he should've made Madrid pay a transfer fee, but what if Madrid were only ever going to take him on a free? And before anyone suggests he should've signed a new deal with a release clause, let's be honest, Liverpool don't do release clauses. That's never been part of our model. : handshake:

He’ll do well at Madrid. Putting in pin point passes to Bellingham, Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, he’s gonna wrack up a lot of assists but he’ll be even more exposed defensively unless Valverde is on his side of midfield.

Yeah I agree. Good luck to him.

He’s done it all with us. He has won everything. I don’t begrudge him the opportunity to try something different - imagine being at the same place of work since you were 6 years old.

I’d also not rule out him returning in a few years time, incredible to think he is still only 26. Its disappointing to not get a fee for him - but that’s on the club.

Absolutely good luck to him, he won the lot and I can understand the desire to play for Real Madrid who are the biggest club in the world.

                                But

Be under no illusion that this has been in the works for about 18/24 months, himself and his tout brother (scalping tickets btw) have engineered a free transfer so they can pocket all the money. If he really cared then he’d have found a way to sign a contract and get us a few. He’s an 80m footballer in his peak leaving us for free - that’s the galling bit. No amount of gaslighting videos will make me believe he truly “cared” about the club. This was him, looking after him
