Over played him from an early age without too much care for his long term career. He should be the bitter one. Macca went and won European cups, I just don't see where the problem is. Well apart from he's one of the ****test commentators ever but I think that would have been the case if he stayed as well.

Life's too short to be bitter.
He could be more transparent to the club that has built him. But he prefers to do snide stuff. **** him

I think he's been a git, contriving to **** us over, but I'm pretty indifferent to him leaving. For every world class pass I can think back to a winger skipping passed him as he barely attempts to stop them. What's his true level (of ability and effort) when he's not playing for a move to Madrid or a massive new contract? Averaging it out, I'd say good rather than amazing. Hopefully, not needing to fund a massive contract for trent will make agreeing deals with virg and Salah easier.

The biggest problem we have is the funding (or lack there of) from FSG. Their plan was always in buying the best young talent, then sell, and rinse and repeat. The profits were to go towards funding the replacements. This doesn't really work as we don't see ourselves as a feeder club, but then we're bizarrely letting our best players run down their contracts to enable them to leave on a free? So where exactly are FSG going to fund the replacements from? We know from their time with us so far that it won't be from their own pockets.

I'm sure there's a masterplan behind all this, would be nice to have access to it...

The club has its own money. Look at the squad we have, that’s been built from a self sufficient model. FSG not using their own money hasn’t been an issue in assembling one of the best squads in Europe.

Losing Trent for free will be a big blow, but it’s not going to prevent us from getting a replacement.

Yep, at face value it looks like he hasn't had the balls to be honest.

He's a turncoat.. not a true red. Phil Coutinho says hi.

Probably convince themselves its not their fault and the fans are ungreatful for everything they did. Half true in a way. But wrong viewpoint. Any number of good players could have been in their spot and done what they did. Thats not what makes a player special to a club though.
                  Already did.

“I remember sitting, we’d just won the first Champions League [in 2000] and I’d only been at the club what, 10 months,” McManaman told the We Are Liverpool Podcast in 2023.

“The lads were in the dressing room singing Spanish songs and lifting the president up in air, which I did, but I just felt as if I was a bit of a fraud, because they’re all singing these Spanish songs and I just thought to myself ‘this is just weird.’”

“I got my phone and I took myself out of the dressing room, went along the corridor, sat on the floor and listened to messages,” he continued. “You [Robbie Fowler] sent me a lovely message about my mother and stuff and I listened to it. But I wasn’t in the dressing room sort of celebrating because I just thought it was all a bit weird.

“I remember thinking ‘I would have loved to have done this with Liverpool’ because I would have been right in the forefront of it all, knowing all the words and really throwing myself into it. And I was very much on the periphery of all the celebrations just because I didn’t understand it.”

The grass may not be greener for Alexander-Arnold
It would be interesting to hear whether Alexander-Arnold will seek out the opinion of McManaman as he ponders his next move.

Its sort of sad that this is the memory he has after winning a big trophy.

I think a lot of you are missing the fundamental point here, which is Madrid doing what they do.

They play the long game, get in the ears of the players that they want very early, and ask them to run down their contracts whilst playing games in their press. They've done it time and time again, most recently with Mbappe.

This is what they do. And they do it better than anyone else.
                      Oh I don't know.

He wants to leave then he can go, He doesn't feel he has a future hear and is only holding out for money.

Not lost on us. I've posted that very thing in this thread iirc but can't be arsed to find it. Financially makes a lot of sense especially given how much they've spunked on their stadium.

They tried it with Harvey Elliott too and he told them to get ****ed.

A millionaire is trying to extract more money from billionaires and he's the bad guy?

As has already been mentioned some of the ranting about TAA over the last few days are utterly bizarre.

He's been a great player for us, one of the best players in a team that won the lot under Jurgen. He'll be a huge loss but if he wants to move on then i personally wish him all the best and look forward to what Bradley (or whoever else) can bring to right back position.

I think everyone is well aware of this tbh.

It takes two to tango. Unlike the Owen and mcmanamam moves, where there was a clear gap in quality of football and potential achievements, that doesn't exist at the moment. The 'lure' of Madrid isn't really sporting now, it's money, so it feels more grubby.

Might not be lost on you, but reading a lot of the other comments in this thread, it seems that way to me.
