I'm not Carroll's biggest fan but I thought he played well tonight, and it's only a matter of time before he goes on a run (especially with the balls that Gerrard put in this evening).

Needs a run of games and he also needs to defend from the front and start closing the opposing keeper / defence down. A decent 7/10 tonight.

Of course he will benefit for Gerrard's delivery, as any striker would, but his all round game still needs to improve, and obviously his finishing.

Thing is he needs to vary his game. At the moment his only worth to the team is when Gerrard plays.

Which will inevitably lead to more crosses and probably more goals

I also think that it was clear when Gerrard was delivering the ball, with some of our other players it's not so clear when the ball is coming in. Gerrard plays in good quality balls early, which makes it easy for Carroll to make the run. One of my main critisisms about the delivery of crosses (from other players) is that you never know when the ball is going to be delivered. Players tend to take an extra touch, or try and beat the man again or whatever, I think there is something more 'simple' about Gerrard's crossing and I think that (combined with the quality) helps the strikers alot.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Indeed. People are rightly saying the service has been pretty poor from the flanks but we can't afford to play a one demential striker who can only score from quality crosses. He needs to offer more than that.

I agree, I thought he was poor again last night. Poor movement, poor touch and looked really awkward. Showed a glimpse of what he can do but he isn't always going to get that kind of service. He has a lot to do yet.

You really are an appalling divvy.
                .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Looked better with Gerrard on the pitch. Let's see what he can do with quality crosses before lynching him.

Couple of headers in and his confidence and touch should come back.

Looking forward to see how he plays with a fully fit Gerrard feeding him.

I actually thought he was decent yesterday, it's like we just need the final push with him, he brought the ball nicely down a couple of times so he has the touch in his locker it's just a matter of clicking, might well do that with Gerrard on the pitch.
                              * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Yes he needs to improve in most areas but scoring some goals would be a good start. That looks a lot more likely now with Gerrard back.
