He's played better without any reward. Good to see something come of for him. He won the game for us so no complaints.

Played well v Brighton and I think he's pushed on from there when ever he's started since.

Just leave him in the team and he'll be fine
        Forwards.......

It was a splendid hit for his goal. He worked the opportunity well, when the chance opened up he saw that he needed to drill the shot hard to beat the keeper and he did it well. Good goal.

I thought he did alright - seems to be building in confidence, and he looked pretty solid today. Needs to do it more often and better, but he's showing some signs of promise.

The great thing about that goal was the inevitability when he had the momentum up - he looked like he was going to score as soon as he picked the ball up - it was almost a given (think Gerrard's 1st goal in the 2006 Cup Final - you knew it was going to happen as soon as he got hold of it)

Hopefully these recent positives will help him kick on to being a valuable squad member over the next few years. I'm hoping he's going to be a confident squaddie rather than first choice.

lets all hope this goal gives him some self belief, and he also grows a pair.

he.scored a very good goal today and like always he worked very.hard.

he does have that in his locker and is suarez was a better finisher he.would have had an assist today. it amazes me how our centre forwards miss some really piss easy chances and suarez missed another easy glancing header from a quality.downing cross.

a proper forward would have given downing ten assists by now and its not his fault the.forwards are ****. thats the main area we need to address in the summer.

I have tried to be more patient with Downing than I have with the other new signings but during the first half today It was the first time that I was slagging him off, him and Kelly on the right was shocking and to be fair if you look through the match thread others said the same, On one Occasion he cut inside with loads of space on the angle of the Area and hit a shocking cross that didn't even pass the first defenders boot laces , He took his goal well But overall I thought he was **** today and yet I would still pick him , but never on the right , why Kenny never switched him and Maxi for at least 5 mins was beyond me .

I really hope this goal gives him confidence to kick on ,here's hoping ( what a difference a season could have been for the lad if it wasn't for the crossbar on the 1st game against Sunderland , )

This post is destined to be ignored I fear.

Well done to Downing today, excellent goal.

He's at the point now where he's showing enough to make you think "Hmmm, should we keep him in the side" but not enough where you're definitively picking him in your best XI.

Good luck peddling these sentiments on a discussion forum.

I believe the proper sign off in these instances is 'End off'
