F*** him. he thought he was far bigger than us, then went to madrid and was no where near technically gifted enough to satisfy the madrid faithful (plastic galactic). we need a stiker who is gifted and talented on the ball who is aware of others around him and can bring others into play. Owen goodbye, you served us fairly well. You are no fowler, and you can finish your injury ravaged career with wigan.......

Arsenal? Chelsea? Milan? etc.Originally posted by Alpha View PostWhich clubs are we talking about here?
A cut-price Owen attracted Madrid, we know that much.
But nowadays?
Perhaps Valencia, Sevilla, Roma or Fiorentina, at best.
Im not saying we should buy him now, but if he's fit and scoring, top clubs would come in for him.
However,if he stays injury prone, then there is no point on wasting moneyJavier Mascherano: 'I want to be settled and kill myself on the pitch so the team wins lots of games'

I can't see it myself.Originally posted by stevie_gerrard_8 View PostArsenal? Chelsea? Milan? etc.
Maybe as a cut-price fourth choice benchwarmer.
But if he wants to be a premier, flagship striker, he is at the right club already. It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.

Well Arsenal need someone to finish their moves off. That is the one thing Owen is good at.Originally posted by Alpha View PostI can't see it myself.

AC Milan need a replacement for Shevchenko and Inzaghi.
And Chelsea are Chelsea
Im not saying he's a good player, but hes a bloody good finisher who will always get goalsJavier Mascherano: 'I want to be settled and kill myself on the pitch so the team wins lots of games'

chilli, I fully concede that's it's only a maybe but for the past 2 years he was at Newcastle which is a sick club no matter what way you look at it, no player is safe from injury there, also, granted he was injured a fair bit when he was with us but he was one of Ged's favourites and never brought back from injury through the reserves, which I believe is something that Rafa would do differently (I often said when he was having a bad patch that Ged should have thrown him in the reserves and let him score a hatful to get his confidence back), for me there's one game that stands out about Owen, and weirdly it's an England game (and I don't follow England before you ask) against Brazil and the ball came to him in the box and was almost under his feet yet he moved his feet so quickly that he managed to drag it out and score with defenders all around him, I suppose what I'm getting at is that yes he HAD pace but before all that he's a goalscorer and one that I would happily have (along with others) if there's a chance he could help bring number 19Originally posted by Red Chilli View Post"Interesting" opinion, Owen "may" make the difference to bring us number 19, but then again he may be injured for 3 quarters of the season.
We need to hit the ground running, so lets sign a currently injured striker who has played less than 20 club games in 2 years.
We can't guarantee owt from Torres or Voronin, but we can guarantee a lot more from them than we can from Owen.
As I say, interesting.

I think Owen's finished. I 'm not letting my own personal opinion of him cloud my judgement.
I believe Ged was right, Ged was always warning of the danger to Owen's body because of the ridiculous amount of top class football he played as a teenager. I think Owen's football career is that of a 34-35 year old. He's OK to use as a sub, can play the odd game here and there, but he will never recover his past form. His body is counting the cost of too much football combined with some terrible injuries.
I'd just about take him on a 2 year contract as a Bosman.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

It's far too much of a risk to sign him. However if, and its a huge if, he stayed injury free this season, would you consider him?Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostI think Owen's finished. I 'm not letting my own personal opinion of him cloud my judgement.

When you think Roque Santa Cruz has just gone to Blackburn for £3.5 million, £9 million for Owen suddenly doesn't seem that tempting for an injury-ravaged striker. It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.

The only problem would be interest from a host of top clubs, which could create a bidding war, hence increasing the price.
If he stays fit, I'd consider him.
The price won't increase if he has another release clause (which he will have, if he has one now). Either way, he'll be 28 by next summer, and able to buy out the existing year of his contract which, ironically, will be about £6m.

With Benitez refusing to match it, coming back was never a realistic option. He wanted games so he could be fit for the World Cup. He wasn't going to get them at Real, so he had the choice of accepting Newcastle's offer, or testing Madrid's resolve and holding out for either an increased Liverpool bid or Madrid caving in. It was high ****ing stakes for him.
England will always be Owen's priority, which I don't agree with, but can accept. If he'd have turned Newcastle down, there was a big risk that Madrid would hang on to him and he would not be fit for the World Cup.
I didn't like his decision, but it is understandable.
Maybe we didnt have that money to spend. Which then means your blaming off Rafa is wide of the mark and moves the decision firmly back at Owen to move to Newcastle and not hold out for a move to Liverpool. Also, he is sorted for first team footy at Newcastle, could the same be said if he moved back? I doubt it and that is what Owen wants.Bill Oddie, Bill Oddie, put your hands all over my body.
