    That I can't argue with

The only thing I would say is that at the time he was stalling I don't blame him - I wouldn't have wanted to continue playing under GH either.

Hence the low price tag. World class for £9m is dirt cheap, definitely a risk worth taking.

Please clarify - do you mean now, with an untested, rebuilt knee, or in January when he has proven himself again?

                i have to disagree Hooz

if he was fit all season then yes your right

but he has never been in his career and we dont know what he be like post those injuries from last summer

its a waste of money on that basis .

If he's worth £9m now, it'll be £6m nerxt summer, no dount, assuming he doesn't sign another deal there.
If that's the case I think we should wait to see whether he'd stay fit. He probably wont want to stay there and would be looking for a move.
The only problem would be interest from a host of top clubs, which could create a bidding war, hence increasing the price.

If he stays fit, I'd consider him.

he has never been able to stay fit.

thats why there are not a host of top clubs after him.

so to sum up ... people are claiming newspaper tittle tattle as fact and using that as a basis to dislike Owen to the point where they'd rather cut their nose off to spite their face

my ow(e)n opinion of course but the question seems to be would you rather have Owen who may make the difference to bring us number 19, or do we stick with formidable premiership experience of Crouch and Kuyt? (as we need to hit the ground running and knowing premiership experience counts I don't think we can guarantee anything from Torres or Voronin)

Rafa is ruthless and he's PROFESSIONAL, if he thinks Owen will make the difference, he'll bid for him

also there's a lot of vitriol being thrown towards him for his England preference, I hope every one of you had the same vitriol for Cisse before he signed as he stated that the move to us was a stepping stone to a big European club, i.e. we were far from his first priority, I'd also be interested to hear what you thought of Pennant openly wondering why he wasn't in the England squad last season, shall we sell him as well as every player that openly courts an international call up?

                          What's that supposed to mean?

A fit, scoring Owen would attract interst from all around Europe There is no denying that.

Which clubs are we talking about here?

A cut-price Owen attracted Madrid, we know that much.

                            But nowadays?

Perhaps Valencia, Sevilla, Roma or Fiorentina, at best.

"Interesting" opinion, Owen "may" make the difference to bring us number 19, but then again he may be injured for 3 quarters of the season.
We need to hit the ground running, so lets sign a currently injured striker who has played less than 20 club games in 2 years.
We can't guarantee owt from Torres or Voronin, but we can guarantee a lot more from them than we can from Owen.

                              As I say, interesting.
