Re: Evra accusing load of people

Isn't this in fact the only time he has accused someone of racism though? Didn't the other couple of occasions turn out to be accusations made by others about abuse toward him?

But Evra has only said he called me a name 10 times and that it was racist.

Suarez has said he called him a name and it was not racist.

      (unless I have missed something)

They would need more proof to find him guilty of racial abuse.

He isn't saying that isn't true. It is racist but it's not the same in terms of impact.

Yes, but on both occassions he never denied he was racially abused. So he let them face the music as 'racists' rather than saying it was just abuse.

The bald assistant/coach at the mancs accused the chelsea groundsman, someone in the crowd accused Finnan. Neither can be put on Evra.

As with so many things, there's a sliding scale but you have to draw the line somewhere. Thankfully we can trust the wise custodians of justice at the FA to understand the nuances.
I don't think it's acceptable to show prejudice against anyone based on things they have no control over. Why should size discrimination be (more) acceptable?

Just because Evra takes Negrito as racist doesn't make it so.

When he had that bust up with the Chav groundsman he took being called ignorant as being called an immigrant.

Whether it's acceptable or used as a term of endearment in other countries, it's the use and interpretation of it in the UK that will determine the outcome.

Maybe this is my red tinted glasses getting in the way of reality but is it completely beyond possibility that Suarez heard Evra's teammates calling him by that name and just used it for effect, I mean its been said on more than one occasion that the Man Utd players called him it, and it has also been proven that Hernandez has also used it to describe someone he knows. Maybe he heard it being said and just added it onto his sentence.

For example, say Evra's name was Pete, and the united players call him Petey, Suarez gets wound up and says sit down little Petey, I don't think its impossible that that was the situation.

There'll now be a case to try and find out what context it was used in, it won't be on Evra's say so if he is indeed found guilty.

Evra never accused the Chelski groundsman of nothing, the bald manc assistant did. (need to find out that guys name before I'm called baldist)

It has no usage in the UK and therefore any intepretation would be literal and wrong.

Herein lies the main problem Craig....there is a big big difference. I really cannot be arsed but John Barnes article summed it up very well.

To put it simply, does the big difference basically amount to saying that discrimination related to height/gender/age etc is ok, but that related to race isnt?

I'm genuinely trying to understand here because i've always been brought up to know that discrimination is wrong, regardless of whether it's to do with race, height, age, gender, religion etc etc. It's just all wrong.

There is absolutely no need to mention the colour of someone's skin when telling them to "calm down". The only reason to do so is to cause offence IMO.
True but people are taking the meaning of negrito to mean 'black man' or 'little black man', people have also pointed out that it could be translated as 'mate' or 'pal'. It's easy to conclude 'calm down little black man' could be taken as racist, 'calm down pal' or 'calm down little fellow' or something similar isn't.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                                Great piece from Tomkins

                                http://www.kopsource.com/why-suarez-...t-guilty-plea/

The word that Suarez is understood to have used towards Evra is ‘Negrito‘ – a term coined by European explorers to describe a class of several ethnic groups that inhabit isolated parts of Southeast Asia.
The literal translation is ‘little black man’, although it is well worth noting that words translated are quite often words misconstrued.
                                And therein lies the problem.
