Anyway I find this offensive from Fergie (although it's xenophobia not racism):

ALEX FERGUSON has been warned that he faces the full wrath of UEFA if he utters one word out of line about Juventus.

The Manchester United manager was yesterday hit with a fine and a stinging rebuke for what were described as "racist" comments against Italians.

Ferguson was handed a fine of 5,000 Swiss Francs, which is pounds 2,155, after he made comments about Inter Milan before both legs of the Champions League clash with the Italians.

A UEFA spokesman branded Ferguson a racist after the United manager said: "When an Italian says it's pasta, I check under the sauce."

And the United manager compounded the insult before the second leg, when he said the Italians' tactics would include "scheming, diving, referee-baiting - the full repertoire."

That incensed UEFA, and has led to a strongly-worded warning that the Scottish manager must not revert to such language when his side meets Italian opposition in the semi-finals.

United take on Juventus in what is bound to be a fraught tie, with both sides reverting to the sort of mind games that Ferguson is famous for. But a UEFA spokesman warned the Old Trafford boss last night that they will be monitoring his behaviour closely from now on.

"This was unnecessary provocation of the opposing team, and we cannot accept racism of any kind," said a spokesman.

"We will be watching closely. If Mr Ferguson makes any of the comments again prior to the game against Juventus, then we would be forced to open up another disciplinary action against him.

"We feel Mr Ferguson, who is an experienced manager with a considerable list of honours, should know perfectly well how to handle the media.

"Therefore, he should have been aware of the potentially negative impact of his declarations, which UEFA saw as unnecessary provocation and inappropriate prior to an important match." Ferguson will now have to watch his words carefully in the build-up to the semi-final clash with arch rivals Juventus - particularly because he has already incensed the Italian nation.

One thing's for sure, I can't wait for this ****ing saga to end and be done with, either way. The amount of opinions flying about is ****, everyone says this that and the other, really cannot wait for it all to be over and we can get back to playing some ****ing football.

Yep, complete cunt. Biggest hypocrite on earth.

What about this? I saw this live and couldn't believe it. Don't think he was punished at all.

Sir Alex Ferguson slams 'typical Germans' as Manchester United exit

        • Manager felt Bayern players influenced referee's decision
        • 'They got him sent off ... typical Germans'

Sir Alex Ferguson slammed the behaviour of the Bayern Munich players for their part in Rafael da Silva's red card during Manchester United's Champions League exit at the hands of the German side.

Several Bayern players seemed to gather around the referee, Nicola Rizzoli, after Rafael appeared to pull back Franck Ribéry and the Manchester United manager, described their behaviour as being that of "typical Germans".

The Italian official subsequently showed United's Brazilian full-back his second yellow card and United were forced to play the final 40 minutes with 10 men.

"There is no doubt about it," Ferguson told ITV when asked if the dismissal had changed the course of the game. "They were never getting through that tie; with 11 men we had no problem. The young boy showed a bit of inexperience but they got him sent off. Everyone sprinted towards the referee – typical Germans."

The Scot also believed United had been the better side across the two legs. "We played better today than they did in their own ground. Without the extra man they made the ball work and I thought we defended very well. It's taken an exceptional strike to settle the tie. We have done well, the performance was excellent, we were very unlucky."

Ferguson's gamble on starting Wayne Rooney appeared to backfire when he was withdrawn after 55 minutes, the same time as Rafael's dismissal, but Ferguson denied that playing had worsened his ankle problem. "I don't think it is serious. It's just that tissue and the blood vessel has just burst. I am sure he'll be fine for the following week."

Did people from Pakistan?

In which case, is 'you p**i *******' less offensive then, than 'you black *******'?
I'm sure you'll be aware of bricks through the windows, dogturds through the letterbox, P***'s out / go home, and the fact South Asian people regardless of whether from Pakistan were all too often identified merely as Pak1s? So again, of course it's not the same, every situation has a unique context. There are certain areas where white people are abused by Asian folk in a similarly ****ed up way too, it might not be as widespread but if it's within that context then a slur would without question be more powerful than otherwise.

To answer your question, I'd say n1gger was more analogous to pak1, and yes I'd say in general it was more damaging. Might be right or wrong about that, but does it matter? No point measuring these things up without reason; it was useful earlier to illustrate that the reason people tend to get more upset about abuse against black people is not because they are just stupid.

I'd also seek to ask whether there might be a case for saying that distinguishing, for example, between racism against a black person and racism against a white person, and finding a differential between the two in terms of 'wrongness', almost in itself, is bordering on 'discriminating' - as it suggests that one race deserves 'protecting' more than the other - and whilst i get the reference to slavery and oppression in the past, i still find it a little uneasy to distinguish between the two, when it comes to saying that racism against one is 'worse' than that against the other. If that makes sense?
I can see where you are coming from

I don't think it suggests one race deserves protecting more than another though, I think it recognises that in different contexts different people might be more vulnerable than others and you should protect them regardless of their background. Ultimately that means all receive equal protection.

Yeah I agree, I think basically the whole thread has been speculating based on these assumptions, I certainly have

This has been building up for a while. If you ask me this has been an orchestrated attack on Suarez as for months he has been branded a cheat, diver ect and now a racist. The fact that the piss head has taken upon himself to brand Suarez a cheat makes me sick when for years he had that spotty faced **** in his team acting like a extra in swan lake.

Bacon face did the same with Rafa when he got his crownies to start the media slur against him.

The chant of "We're Man united and we do what we want" says it all.

I think it's safe to assume 'negrito' is the word in question. It was leaked (drip-fed?) by "senior MUFC officials" to Daniel Taylor of the Guardian (their Manc correspondent) and has been widely used since without any complaint from any party.

Anyone know when the hearing is?

I was quite shocked once hearing someone use the p word to describe their neighbour so openly until went round and realised he was a guy called Patrick from Ireland and went by that name.

Same has happened to me. Think there was a character in GTA4 called Packie as well

It was a moment not unlike that clip of the Aussie TV reporter having a go at the guy trying to sell his house "not to asians" then he suddenly realises he's saying agents not asians.

Aye, I know someone who goes by the name Packie too.

I think it's just generally a shame that words can be used in such a negative and offensive way, and some people are nasty enough to do so.

My point was that imo he shouldn't have talked to press period and I explained why not.

When he did, there is always a concern that the press can turn and twist the words (or use assumptions as you put it) around any way they find it appealing or in this case, it may not be properly translated in other language.

All that could have been prevented by him not talking to the media at all but him being outspoken about it imo will only hurt his chances coming out of this unscathed.
