Evra accuses Suarez of racism

That I did not know; I mean I know he took stick and was pissed off about it (surprise, surprise) but I didn't know he'd accused fans of being racist. My impression is that Evra like to throw toys out the pram in general. What he should have done is confronted Suarez rather than go to the press and maybe this would have been cleared up before all this nasty **** started playing out in the press. Something which, from what I can tell Ferguson has had his dirty mitts all over. He really stirred the pot and actually it hasn't done either player any favours. Meanwhile back at the Blatt cave....Sepp plans to shakes Luis hand.
The Terry case is being investigated by the police, they can't do anything yet and the papers can't say anything yet. So whilst a lot of the fears about the lack of objectivity are well founded IMO, I think at the moment we can't really expect much different. Just have to wait and see. If the police do him, the FA's hands will be tied anyway.Like blood on iron

Some slurs are worse than others, yes. Do you not think so?Originally posted by Craig_H View PostOnce again, while i see your point, can i clarify that you therefore do think that certain types of discrimination are 'more acceptable' than others?
I would not say 'more acceptable' though, because that would imply they have some acceptability. They don't.
Edit: sorry missed your earlier post, like someone said this thread is moving too fast! I don't think an absolutist position helps really, from experience I would have assumed most people would have felt a sliding scale in terms of the impact insults have on them?Last edited by Red_Polo; 18-11-11, 05:53 PM.Like blood on iron

This is in no way passing judgement on what you've said, but merely just stating my own viewpoint - but in terms of discrimination, i dont personally differentiate between types and consider some to be less damaging and ugly than others.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostSome slurs are worse than others, yes. Some slurs are worse than others yes, but to me, that's along the lines of saying that calling someone a 'cunt' is worse than calling them a 'wally' (for example).
When it comes to discrimination, prejudice, treating people differently based on things which go beyond their own control and are independent from their character, personality and the type of person they are, i dont personally consider some to be worse or better than others. I think they're all wrong and i wouldnt seek to 'rank' them in order of wrongness.
As i say, just my own viewpoint. I'm not saying you're wrong, but in terms of how i was brought up, to me, all types of discrimination are equally as bad.

Out of interest would you see p**i and bald as equally offensive?Originally posted by Craig_H View PostThis is in no way passing judgement on what you've said, but merely just stating my own viewpoint - but in terms of discrimination, i dont personally differentiate between types and consider some to be less damaging and ugly than others.

Frenchie
My brother-in-law is a Mexican of Lebanese decent, 3rd cousin of Carlos Slim, he is slightly darker than the average over here and his family and friends call him Negrito, it is a term of endearment over here.
Nicknames that reflect a 'description' of someone like 'little pea' (FFS) and 'Hulk' etc is the norm here.
The British xenophobic media must have Latin American staff who should be defending their culture, where are they?

Both abusive, both no doubt described by the people who use those terms as "simply descriptive".
But one is substantially worse than the other.
