Ive always been anti Trent in midfield....but im starting to think he might actually be decent there. Its surely worth a shot to see how he goes now that the season is pretty much done.

He’s a class footballer for sure, but he’s almost working to rule to get out of having to play right back.

I was trying to work out who the 28 year old was, then realised it's Keita I'd forgotten about him That means currently we only have Curtis Jones in the 22-28 year old group (as Keita is injured and unlikely to play for us again).

Awful planning, unforgivable really. Really didn't need to happen this way.

Maybe it'd be best to skip all European footy next season. Lower bonuses, fewer matches so we don't need as many players. Can just buy quality and focus on the league.

I'd prefer no European footy to Europa stuff. Might get us away from those horrid early Saturday games too

If we want to go back to winning ways and play that helter-skelter pressure football, it's going to take time and money. Whether Klopp is here for that is another story. As regards European footie, I don't really care this season anymore, just waiting for it to be over. Not getting league football is a disaster fore the club & a ral kick in the balls considering what we have done and where we have been but that's the reality of the situation. Had to come to an end something I suppose.

Missing out on CL is only an issue financially. So long as we are back on it next season I don’t think it is that big an issue. I’d be up for a solid tilt at the Europa and the PL when we regroup next season.

It has definitely benefited Newcastle and Arsenal and to a lesser extent Utd not having the churn of top level CL games.

Let’s see how Newcastle manage next season being pot 3 or 4 in a CL group and maintaining League form.

And for us, let’s regroup and take it for what it is.

A heftly bank transfer into some account should see them alright for being put in with the ****test pot one and pot two teams.

Fowler: "No goals from a midfield trio that so very nearly wrote history. In any competition. So far, they have made a combined 99 appearances so far, and not a single goal. It gets worse. In all those appearances, they have three assists between them, two for Henderson and one from Thiago. And that is where the disaster of this season stems from."

Fowler: "You look at the Premier League table, and for all the criticism of Liverpool’s defence, they still have the fifth best record, better than Manchester United and Tottenham, and not much different to City and Arsenal."

Fowler: "Yet goals are a massive problem - despite Mo Salah having another inconsistent season. Nunez has done okayish, they’ve been without Diaz and Jota for long periods, and Gakpo, well, not great but he’s new."

Fowler: "From midfield though, it’s nothing. Keita hasn’t scored either, neither has Jones or Milner; Oxlade-Chamberlain and Bajcetic have one apiece. That’s two goals from seven midfielders. Only Harvey Elliott has a half-respectable total."

Fowler: "It’s the same with assists, seven from 11 midfielders used this season. Compare that to Manchester City, and you see the problem. 35 goals from midfield, 40 assists."
