As you say Lucas is a good player. In my opinion we shouldnt have anyone protecting the defence, they should be protecting themselves. Our midfield needs to be more offensive end of story. If you need more people to defend you should us 5 defenders, not 4 defenders and a 1 midfield player

I hope Masherano is sold, great player, but lacks any sort of creativity. I also, hope Lucas is allowed to play more as he did at Greimo as a box to box type player

Appreciate that mate, heard there was lot of ex Koptalkers on here.

Agreed that we need a moreoffensive player in midfield, Masch was a destroyer but playing ball wasn't his strong point. I feel that if we get a replacement which seems inevitable i just don't see how Lucas fits into the first team and IMO out of the players that we have i don't think he is good enough.

Delighted Masch will be sold, with a fresh start like ours the last thing we need is players that genuinely don't want to be here

just not sure he has the quality to do that in the Premier league. Its ok saying Benitez stopped him playing like that, but i am not sure he has good enough and has enough to his game to be able to do that, unless we can play newcastle 38 games a year

Valid points alright, think Rafa changes his game to minimise mistakes and maximise work rate and effort. Essentially though it sounds harsh Lucas is a failed box to box midfielder(under Rafa) turned midfield work horse. IMO he'll only be a squad player come next season.

Lucas won player of the year in Brazil before coming to us, as a box to box player. You have to be exceptional to win this award in Brazil. He has also bulked up and is very hard to knock off the ball. I really look forward to him playing under Roy Hodgson (who has already praised him)

I'm hoping Roy will give the players a little more freedom to attack, Lucas and Babel could become much more effective players with a new manager. Most people have seen that Lucas is a good player, he has loads of energy and he does have ability - he is also a very disciplined player and works hard for the team. I have high hopes for him, he has endured jeering from the crowd yet just kept his head down and focussed on his job. How many other Liverpool players would have shown such strength of character? The pass to Gerrard against Newcastle was proof that he does have more to his game than simply partnering another defensive midfielder. He has developed into a good all-round midfielder who can adapt to different roles in different situations.

Give it a break newbie you are not on cocktalk now. If it has escaped you, Lucas was one of our best players last year. Without his performances we would have finished in the bottom half of the table last season

I read/heard somewhere on here that Roy likes to give his players responsibility on the field - I think Lucas will flourish even more this season
