Good experienced squad player - but cannot play in the same team as Gerrard as both are too slow.

Agreed but for nights like tonight he's ideal as we are going to need to rotate the team around with the amount of mid week games we'll have, what I don't want to see is Lucas deployed on the left hand side of a midfield triangle as that doesn't do him or us any favours at all. In his correct position he still has a lot to offer

I thought he did enough to think he has something to offer still in the specific role Gerrard plays. He'd offer less in passing ability, but as he keeps it so simple he barely ever gives it away and would help us build from the back.

His lack of mobility isn't such a problem in that position either. He's disciplined to not get caught of position like Gerrard from time to time too.

He seemed to be the only one in midfield to be able to tackle someone and get a boot on it to disrupt their build up. Thought he was better than ok last night

Good performance from Lucas last night, the 120 mins will have done him the world of good. Seemed to get better and grow in confidence as the game went on and showed a great attitude.

Middlesbrough’s lack of pressing did make things a bit easier from him admittedly, but maybe that’s what he needed, a game like this to get his confidence back.

This. Just because he wasn't utterly terrible for once, doesn't suddenly make his performance 'great'.

He was missing for large portions of the first half.

He definitely wasn't excellent (Nigey) but if this was a step to a recovery of form, it was a decent enough one. It might even give some confidence to suggest he could be an adequate rotation possibility with Gerrard.
