The fact that Rafa played Lucas in so many games in a position which debatably was our strongest position was always a clear indication that Lucas was performing a lot better than most made out. Rafa was not one for sentiment and as Keane, Krompkamp, Josemi, Gonazalez and Moreientes will all testify, if you weren't performing you'd quickly find yourself on the way out.

Surely Lucas is the standout candidate for our player of the year which would be massive turnaround in just 12 months, when most would have taken the 4-5 million touted as the price we were asking under that gimp Purslow.

And you were duly ignored first time.

There is a pretty simple solution to your dilemma.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I did waste about 10 mins TBH. And believe me, there are plenty more from you but that wasn’t what I was looking for. I genuinely was looking to find out when you had this drastic change of heart, hence these particular quotes being relatively recent.

But it’s quite simple, do a search for ‘Lucas’ and filter your name and you’ll find a plethora of similar pathetic posts over numerous threads right up to about January of this year.

                      Enjoy…

Ha ha, it seriously wasn't. If that was my intention I was have provided direct links or proper quotes, but as I was only browsing through the first lines of the odd post and I just took a mental note of the odd word and C&P's a few more recent statements. There was plenty more crap spoken, especially the classic 'failed box-to-box' midfielder which was his ace card, but I seriously wasn't that interested in digging it all up.

                          'Disappointment made me tougher'

Lucas Leiva has revealed how he believes missing out on last summer's World Cup served to make him a better player.

The midfielder was overlooked for the 2010 finals, but his outstanding Liverpool form has established him as a regular in Mano Menezes's squads.

And Lucas feels overcoming the disappointment of being omitted from Brazil's South Africa selection helped increase his mental toughness.

"Being back in the Selecao (Brazilian national team) is something I am very proud of," he told LFC Weekly. "Missing out on last summer's World Cup was a huge disappointment and a bad moment in my career.

"In the long term, such a disappointment has made me a stronger person and now, having played the last few games under new coach Mano Menezes, I am very confident."

Prior to moving to Liverpool in the summer of 2007, Lucas played under the tutelage of Menezes for two seasons at Gremio, during which time he scooped the prestigious Brazilian Footballer of the Year award.

He added: "Mano was my coach at Gremio and I know him well. He also knows my game. When I was at Gremio, I was the attacking midfield player but now I am more defensive. He has watched me play for Liverpool and believes in me - that is important for any player."

Lucas will hope to be part of Brazil's squad for the forthcoming Copa America in Argentina.

The Selecao are barely recognisable from the team that competed in the World Cup, but confidence is high they can mount a successful defence of their crown.

"This Brazilian team is new with lots of younger players...like Neymar and Ganson," said Lucas. "We believe we can do well in this summer's Copa America in Argentina.

"It is an exciting tournament because the stadiums in Argentina are always full of passionate supporters. Argentina are our main rivals, so they will be desperate for us to lose. But that makes us more determined to win."

The drastic change of heart comes with the drastic change of form since his arrival at LFC isn't that obvious? He was terrible for a long time and i suppose only me and about another 98% of LFC have similiar opinions as regards Lucas, you didn't fair play you for standing by him and i'll send a blue peter badge in the post .

And I have several posts saying his game has been changed by Rafa into midfield workhorse, and that comment still stands and he is flourishing in that position! He came as a box to box midfield, they look at him everyday in training and have decided, (and by they i mean Rafa,Hodger and Kenny) that Lucas's attributes as a player are clearly suited to being that workhorse/protector in front of the backline, so i'm not wrong there am i? And there's nothing wrong with being a workhorse is a vital role at DM.

Anyways Lucas has proved me and many others wrong and changed our opinions on him, sure we all fall over our words at some point. I don't you'll find one LFC supporter who has an issues with saying that so it's all good

Oh and sure we all have a bit of mind changing from time to time

Haven’t read the match thread, but the abuse N’Gog got most of the match (as well as the usual suspects) in the bar where I watched it was shocking
