The midfielders we've already got are better options than Agger, and Agger would be more likely to get injured in the hustle and bustle of the midfield. Plus Coates would be a better option as the left CB if Agger was moved.

Liverpool FC said today a scan had confirmed an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in Lucas Leiva's left knee.

The Brazil international will undergo surgery and unfortunately be ruled out for the remainder of the current campaign.

Devastated. He has been immense for us for two years, having put up with high expectations from know-nothings and slagging off for years. No one walks in in their early 20's and replaces Xabi Alonso or Mascherano, but Lucas over the past 24 months has been absolutely IMMENSE for Liverpool and always a class professional. I hope he recovers to his current form and pushes past this injury into the heights that seemed to be looming for him. I wish him a speedy recovery and a place back in our XI as soon as is possible.
