Liverpool FC midfielder Jordan Henderson ready to work hard for his place

JORDAN HENDERSON insists he is not worrying about the prospect of losing his starting place to the returning Steven Gerrard.

The England U21 midfielder has started all but one of the Reds’ Premier League games this season, following his £16m move from Sunderland in the summer.

But he was left on the bench for the win at Everton and with Gerrard pushing for a recall after six months on the sidelines with a groin problem, the 21-year-old knows he faces a battle to regain his place.

Henderson, however, says he hopes to get the chance to show Kenny Dalglish what he can do against Premier League leaders Manchester United at Anfield this Saturday, and says he is unconcerned about the increase in competition.

“I am not really worried about that,” said Henderson. “I think it’s part and parcel of football.

“Obviously, Stevie is a massive player and is going to play in most games, but I just need to concentrate on what I need to do and make sure I work hard every day in training.

“Given the opportunity, I need to take it and make sure I stay in the team.”

Henderson was disappointed to be left out as Liverpool won 2-0 at Goodison Park – he was an 89th-minute replacement for Lucas Leiva – but says he is satisfied with the manner in which he has settled in on Merseyside since leaving his home-town club back in June.

“Obviously the derby is a massive game and everybody wants to play in it,” he said. “So I was a little bit disappointed not to start, but the team did brilliantly and got a great result and I was fortunate to come on as well.

“There were still a lot of positives to come out of the game.

“I think I have settled in OK. I am enjoying my time there and the lads have been brilliant, as well as the fans.

“I need to kick on and do even better.”

                                What about "Henno"?

                                ...or maybe not...

                                1. Henno

Australian slang to describe a sportsperson of poor quality prone to making mistakes in the field of play. Can also defined to describe a "useless hack" or a "dud"

Originates from Essendon Aussie Rules player Aaron Henneman who is regarded as the worst player in the AFL Football League.

                                Commonly used derivative is "Hennohack"
Oh no! He's done a Henno!
