I wouldn’t necessarily draw equivalence between the right to choose different types of cars and freedom from slavery, but agree that it’s generally not good to be pious about the relatively mundane decisions of others. Hypocrisy is always going to be called out though.

I guess because part of the joy of being alive is the freedom to chose your own means of transportation (subject to budgetary constraints….), and the freedom to choose your employment (even if that means the right to go and work in a country whose values some people on the internet disagree with).Originally posted by Fosterbloke View PostYou're assuming that recharging isn't achieved through solar means. Being rich enough means that's more likely the case.
Mining happens regardless of EVs, it's part of our modern tech world. Hopefully we'll find a way to eliminate the most harmful ones.
But yeah, I agree with the replacement cost part. EVs solve a car manufacturing problem, not strictly an environmental one.
Why can't a coach pick up all the players from their houses? Why do they need to drive in Ferraris and Bentleys?

Time to move this thread to the 'Legends and other former players' section.

Echo dom9's sentiments, really disappointed in Hendo, but I've been disappointed with his performances for so long that I've gotten used to the feeling.
Will not watch or follow anything from that vile league, so he's effectively retired with disgrace for me.

I agree, but all foot players, including Henderson are interested in these days is money. Sadly, morals departed the game a long time ago (no matter what they display at the surface). I’m sure he is not bothered so I certainly won’t let if affect me.Originally posted by Fosterbloke View PostNone of really cares about the player leaving per se.
We buy into the culture of the club and players are also a reflection of that. So having a player display such hypocrisy is a bit of a let down.
I'd like to think the club would politely decline to do business with clubs from that country but clearly money is money to them.

I guess we'll find out.Originally posted by Harv View PostWhy's it a betrayal?
What if this is all part of his plan to go over there and be really LGBTQ with everyone and make them all realise LGBTQers aren't that bad at all? Its a 4D chess LGBTQing move
Or he tries that on, gets beheaded, and becomes a martyr for all of they/them
Now I have an image of some mad executioner stamping his feet then thrusting a severed head aloft to a background of fireworks and music..

None of really cares about the player leaving per se.Originally posted by kingfunk View PostSeriously who cares…. I’m glad he is going, the team needed a major overhaul and we are getting it. There is nothing special about Henderson that can’t be replaced plus added energy and youth. Really exciting times, just really hope the deal is completed now. Think Klopp will be secretly delighted also!

You're assuming that recharging isn't achieved through solar means. Being rich enough means that's more likely the case.Originally posted by Patricks_Berger View PostIt is when you factor in the materials and energy required to manufacture a replacement. Further considerations are the rare earth metals and other minerals that need to be dug up to go into the EV batteries plus (potentially) all the coal that needs to be burnt to generate the electricity needed to run an EV.
Taking these factors into account, often keeping your current motor for longer will be the lower emission option.

It's a betrayal.
That, as I have already said, is what I am most ****ed off about.

It's not about whataboutism. It's about the specifics of what this individual has previously championed and stood up for.Originally posted by Rigadon View PostI get what you’re saying but I don’t see a price on morality. Most people would agree that fossil fuels are bad for the environment and are carcinogenic but continue to drive petrol/diesel cars. Most people would agree that there’s a great deal of animal cruelty in the production of meat but, nevertheless, continue to eat meat. Most people would agree that there are human rights issues in China and India but continue to buy electrical goods and clothes that are made in those countries. All of us would agree that the Sun newspaper and its owner are morally bankrupt but most have probably subscribed to Sky/Foxtel at some point.
Anyway, I think Henderson has been a brilliant servant and captain of our club. He also hasn’t been afraid to voice opinions on player welfare, racism, gay/lesbian issues and concerns with the last World Cup. He’s made a difference. Hopefully he’ll continue to make a difference. Good luck to him. Now’s the right time for him to leave. We get good money (more than we got for Bobby and Wijnaldum) which can be reinvested in new players.
It's a betrayal.
That, as I have already said, is what I am most ****ed off about.

The greenest car that you can have is the one that you already own. Henderson probably has an electric car and thinks he is helping the environment not realising that mining the lithium has caused us all to be roasting our bollocks off here. Then he goes and takes the oil cash.Originally posted by Fosterbloke View PostTrue but some people can't afford to make moral choices. They buy cage eggs, drive older cars, buy non organic produce.
Being held to ransom by monopolies isn't a criticism, we still have to participate in society.
But if you can afford to make better choices then you should be held to a higher standard.
Yes Henderson has been a good player for us but a servant? I hate that saying, he's handsomely paid to kick a sportsball and train hard.
****in arsehole
