While both Fabinho and Thiago appear to be winning their defensive duels the skipper isn’t. This could explain why we’ve been so vulnerable down our right hand side - Trent is probably doing what Trent always does but there’s not enough protection.

BTW - Thiago profiles as genuinely elite

Hendo's is pretty awful, for whatever reason... msybe bevause he is drawn out of position by Trent. But you would expect his pressing to be at least up there with Thiago.

He is suffering from a physical stand point, for years his running and work rate were up there with the best but now his body prevents that from being as effective. I’ve moaned in the past about his technical ability but that is mainly in high intensity games where time on the ball is minimal but when given time he can pass with the best of them.

What I’ve found the most frustrating with him recently though is his lack of tactical awareness - he would pop up as CF or on the left wing with massive gaps on the right side. He also lets people run off him and shouts at others to pick up his man……. he’s been a great servant and is an inspirational figure off the pitch. If we are to get back to our best he shouldn’t be starting big games for us anymore

This, we are almost a man down with him or Milner in the line up. Baffling.

Would be interested to see his stats when he was it his peak, I imagine it will make a pretty grim comparison.

I’ve got stats for Curtis jones and Harvey too - defensively similar to Henderson’s. . As well as some midfielders we should be looking at like Konrad Laimer, Bellingham, Jacob Ramsey who all profile well.

Although henderson has been below par Matip was covering much of the stuff that passed henderson. Vvd''s form has dropped quite a bit too, so once you add up the henderson ongoing poor form, the decline of Matip and vvd, you end up with us conceding in the first few minutes every game and struggling against every (non scotch) team.

I should also mention the obvious...
Taa not being bothered to wipe his own arse and walking around like he's a spectator is also a massive factor.
