Undoubtedly the runs are for different reasons, at a simple level you could say that the problems at the start of the season were due to losing key players from last year for a variety of reasons Suarez, Sturridge etc. You could also say that the reason for the up turn in form was finding a system that worked, getting a settled side or whatever.Originally posted by dww View PostIt's an interesting point, and one worth analysing. I think there are some differences in the different runs. The start of this season was bad tactics and lack of appropriate players. The bad run at the end seemed like bad emotional management of the FA cup/Gerrard leaving situation.
A lot of these things seem like part of a learning curve. The question is how fast is Rodgers learning. A big question for me in the post-season review would be if he is willing to take on more support. He clearly needs it and the requirement is greater than ever having lost Caragher, Suarez and now Gerrard who were the experienced leaders and winners in the dressing room.
The problem for me is more that we never seem to bounce back with a win after a poor result, we have had a significant number of back to back defeats in the league this year, Palace and Stoke, Man Utd and Arsenal, earlier in the season we had 3 in a row, Newcastle, Chelsea and Palace, and at the start Villa and West Ham. It is almost as if we either can't lift the players, or we decide to change the system/style too much to compensate. Whatever the reason it needs addressing. The run of 10 games and 2 draws out of 12 this season was a great run considering the state of our squad, and the run last season was stupidly good. The squad and manager are capable of these things, if we could at least make the dire patches average we could easily have been challenging for or in the top 4. The fact that the start of the season (P12, W4, D2, L6) and the end of the season (P9, W2, D2, L5) gave us 22 points from 21 games shows a couple of terrible patches cost us half a season - if we had picked up 31 points from those 21 games (something that isn't a huge ask) we would have finished ahead of Man Utd.
If we can overcome these prelonged patches of poor form there is the potential for significant improvement. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Two excellent points. The team was actually transitioning quite well to a post-Gerrard era but it became difficult not to make sentimental team selections. I don't think I'd try if I sensed the manager was not picking the best team.Originally posted by dww View PostThe bad run at the end seemed like bad emotional management of the FA cup/Gerrard leaving situation. ... The team is being pulled out of shape by weaknesses at the back/defensive midfield and a desire to play a pressing game. We need to get our flexibility back, which means some good purchases but also a better defensive coach.

Take this to the bank. Rodgers is either deffo staying or deffo going.
LFCCRACKER @lfccracker 1h1 hour ago
@Andrew_Heaton when you say 'deffo' how reliable is that?
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 1h1 hour ago
@lfccracker About as reliable as a chocolate fireguard
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 1h1 hour ago
Point is thus, 2 people I know, who've no interest in Twitter notoriety, but are basically the most reliable people I know on such matters.
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 1h1 hour ago
One doesn't even like football, absolutely no interest in it, but is interested in big business...anyway, I digress.
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 1h1 hour ago
One is as sure as you can be that Rodgers is a goner and we've spoken to Klopp.
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 1h1 hour ago
The other is as just as sure that Rodgers is safe, Michael Gordon is batting for him and nothing is likely to happen.
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 1h1 hour ago
So, my point is this, the only thing I'm certain of is that neither of them are lying.
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 1h1 hour ago
My own view is this, if a decision had definitively been made, we'd know by now. But what do I know?
PrinceBuster69 @PrinceBuster69 1h1 hour ago
@Andrew_Heaton Which one has a source in Boston? I believe that one.
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 1h1 hour ago
@PrinceBuster69 Both

Sorry, one more thing, and this nothing more than a hypothesis....
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 32m32 minutes ago
Maybe FSG's thinking has been muddied by FFP relaxation, no point having an expensive clear out if you're intending to sell?
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 27m27 minutes ago
Essentially, FSG have 3 options. 1) Get in an arms race with City and Chelsea. 2) Retain ownership of a stagnant/depreciating asset. 3) Sell

On the main stand shout. A new 'trophy' owner would more than likely build a new stadium. Regardless of Anfield expansion.
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 23m23 minutes ago
Reasons for doing it fairly straightforward, easy to push through a convoluted petro dollar funded naming rights deal on a new stadium
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 23m23 minutes ago
Naming right for the existing stadium relatively worthless as it will always be referred to as Anfield.
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 15m15 minutes ago
Right, off this now. And as I said, just my thoughts on the matter having been privy to a small degree in another Football non-LFC deal.
Andy Heaton @Andrew_Heaton 14m14 minutes ago
What do I think will happen? On the manager, not a clue. On the owners? I think they'll be gone within 18/24 months.
Why do people waste their time engaging with bull****ters who know about as much as my grandma?
And I'm talking about my dead grandma.

I'm inclined to agree with this poster from another site especially his first post.
If you are running a business, ultimately you make the decision as to whether an employee is up to the task you have given them and three years is plenty of time to make your mind up.
This idea that Brendan has the opportunity to convince them, at a meeting, that he is still the right man is ludicrous. Anyone can talk the talk in a meeting, they either think he is or he isn't right for the role, this meeting will have no bearing on that. It is purely for the cameras for some reason.Yup. Werner is coming over to take the kudos and look like he gives an actual f***. If he was staying they'd have left it with this Gordon persona they've spent the last two weeks creating. Klopp or Ancelotti have said yes.

Things change and evolve over time in business, what was required initially may have moved on and morphed into something else. To think other factors other than being here 3 years won't play a part in how we move forwards whether with or without Rodgers is Naive at best. Of course the owners will want to hear what Rodgers has to say and I'd say also what goals/minimum requirements he would impose on himself for next season, if they don't tally up with what they expect then they'll have a decision to makeOriginally posted by marcus50bucks View PostI'm inclined to agree with this poster from another site especially his first post.

Jurgen Klopp will be the next Coach of Napoli after Rafa Benitez goes to Real Madrid, claims Franz Beckenbauer.
“Next season Klopp will be training in the South of Italy, at Napoli,” German legend Beckenbauer told Sky Sport Deutschland.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager had been named as one of the likely candidates, but only if the Partenopei snatch third place from Lazio this evening.
That would put them in the preliminary round of the Champions League with a considerably bigger budget.
Other alternatives are Sampdoria’s Sinisa Mihajlovic, Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella and Unai Emery of Sevilla.

Beckenbauer did not say anything about Klopp to Napoli on Sky Germany yesterday. Another made up quote/story.
