Now that I've watched the clip of what Rodgers said, I'm inclined to swing toward Nigey's view that it could be a siege mentality approach.

It did strike me that he was calm, and the players certainly played with effort and desire (although I do remember us doing the same when we beat Bolton 2-1 under Hodgson in his penultimate game). He might just be keeping him and the players close knit and focused.

If he's having a go at the press, then it's a ridiculous thing to do, as they'll hound him the moment we slip up. If he's having a go at certain factions within the club, then he must be aware of approaches to other managers.

The home game against Sion should be a win. It's the run after that which will determine his fate either now, or at the end of the season.

If FSG have already made up their mind, there should be more stories being systematically leaked throughout the week.

When Rodgers first came in he acted in a manner that I thought showed he understood the club. He said all the right things, was humble and showed plenty of humility. He was a proper class act.

Since last season tides have got a bit rough and he's showed a real lack of class, crying and passing the buck continually. He's showed a real desire to keep this positive LMA manager of the year spin going.

That sort of self back slapping doesn't wash at a club like LFC. Certainly not when you've won nothing in three full seasons of managing the club, when the boss he took the job from was club legend número uno and had made two finals and won a trophy before getting the bullet.

He's trying to keep himself relevant for when he gets the bullet so he might get another job. Convince future employers it wasn't a fluke and he's actually decent.

It's a natural reaction to flip out when something goes your way and you've had a rough time of late so I can understand why he's done it but I agree he would be better off focusing on the result and giving some positive feedback about the performance instead of chatting **** like he does. He just doesn't know when to shut the **** up and keep his pie hole closed.

Something I've learnt since being a Manager myself and I've learnt this from my boss is just sit back and reflect before going off on one. Whether that's sending an email or whether you're annoyed with someone just have a breather and think before you open your ****ing mouth.

        He seems incapable of that.

He needs to do himself a favour and be calm. Ignore the criticism and bite his tongue. He just can't help himself though, he'd be the first to shout told you so if we turned it around.
He's under immense pressure and giving it back some because he feels like fighting his corner. Ballsy. Much prefer this to being meek. Stand tall and strut like a peacock. Let's hope we win the next game too.

Listen to the whole interview and he really wasn't crowing, overly back-slapping, or even simply being a dick. Just answering questions honestly, and fighting his corner as he's entitled to do. Some people want to twist everything he says and does into something negative.

He is of course under a huge amount of pressure, retaliating the way he did is a natural reaction. If he hadn't retaliated like that then people would think he's a pussy.

I do feel for him but he also needs to learn sometimes to say nothing, or limit what you say. In his own words, it's a difficult moment for him but he will learn, whether that's with us or someone else who knows.

I felt a bit for him today on the sidelines, never enjoy seeing someone under pressure as regardless of what everyone says, myself included he does actually care about the club which is more than can be said of a lot of people.

Brendan Rodgers attacks Liverpool's critics as contact is made with Klopp and Ancelotti

BRENDAN RODGERS last night rounded on the high profile critics – many of them former Liverpool players – who want him sacked.

                  By JOHN RICHARDSON
                  PUBLISHED: 22:30, Sat, Sep 26, 2015

Rodgers came out fighting following a gutsy 3-2 victory over Aston Villa - the club’s first league win in five games.

After saluting his players who set the ball rolling with a goal after just 66 seconds he took aim at “a group of people that don’t want me here’.

Former Anfield stars including Jamie Carragher, Jamie Redknapp, Mark Lawrenson and John Aldridge have questioned the direction of the club under Rodgers.

Rodgers when asked about the pressure he has been under insisted: “I have never worried about the players. They have been brilliant. They have worked very, very hard.

“But I am pretty confident that there is a group of people that don’t want me to be manager here. In all competitions we have lost less games than Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal. The hysteria around ourselves is interesting to note.

“We have lost two games, which is equal to Tottenham and Manchester United. We stand very calm, work very hard every day and we’ll get the rewards.

“But I think it is clear. Sometimes we haven’t lost a game but we haven’t performed well and I think, from the hysteria around it, it is pretty clear there is maybe something else going on from behind. I’m talking about people outside of here.”

Rodgers also still has to completely convince Liverpool’s owners that he should remain as manager and the weekend trip to neighbours Everton could prove an acid test for the 42-year-old.

Sunday Express Sport can reveal that contact has been made with representatives of both former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp and ex AC Milan, Chelsea and Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

It was a sounding out exercise because the Liverpool hierarchy are split over whether to part company with the man who came close to winning the title just 16 months ago.

We can report that Ancelotti has told Liverpool that he is not available for hire until December although Klopp would come immediately.

But that won’t happen unless Rodgers suffers a heavy defeat at Goodison Park.

Rodgers believes the return of England striker Daniel Sturridge after hip surgery in the USA is a timely tonic.

He scored twice against Villa with Rodgers adding: “It’s not rocket science,” said Rodgers. “The last time we scored three goals was when he started the game against Tottenham here (in February).

“If you’re going to compete at the top of the table you need quality. We’ve got some very good players here and Daniel has shown over his time here that he is a really, really top talent.

“When you miss that type of goal threat from your team you can suffer. I thought he was outstanding today. He was disappointed he didn’t get a hat-trick but his two finishes were outstanding and he showed great combination with Danny Ings considering it was the first time they had started together.”

I'd prefer it if he just resigned.

If the express is right it'll be interesting to know when we sounded Klopp out because Tony Barrett said this two days ago

                            Tony Barrett 25/9/15

Although Liverpool have not made any approach to Klopp — it is believed that they have previously had misgivings about employing such a strong personality — the prospect of securing one of the world’s most renowned managers without having to pay compensation could make him a strong candidate to replace Rodgers in the event of his position becoming untenable.

That says more about the people doing the recruiting and what they're after. Strong personalities are what's needed at this club, regardless of whether it's Rodgers related or not.
