I agree its the smartest thing you've said for awhile

Lets just close the forum down and not bother discussing anything
As i said in my post i have no problems with constructive criticism of any kind towards players or manager.

I always did hate during the Rafa days if someone criticised Rafa, people would say "So your saying you know more than Rafa" or "Rafa works with these players every day" etc. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and managers do **** up and make mistakes..big mistakes. Still though i can safely say that nobody on here knows feck all in comparison to even Roy Hodgson.

As the great Bob Hoskins once said though... it's good to talk

If you're talking about tactics, training etc then mostly I agree with you but when it comes to transfers......
For example I knew from day 1 that Carroll, Downing, Henderson and Adam should never have been allowed anywhere near this club let alone for a combined 80 million. Mr Dalglish, a man who has won the league Championship with 2 different clubs, thought differently.
And there are plenty of other examples of PL managers making transfer decisions that no one in their right mind would agree with.

Was talking about tactics, every single premier league manager is light years ahead of anyone on this site

Yeah the whole transfer thingy makes me queasy, some transfers are no brainer i.e. RVP, some transfers are risky & some are just plain daft. Carroll fee & the fact we bought him off the back of good 6 months made that transfer worse, but yup Carroll was shocking. Adam low enough fee, decent production from a deep role but not good enough, personally i don't see that as anywhere near as big a failure as the others.

Downing signing was a criminal offence & never saw anything with Henderson to warrant LFC pursuing him.

            Interesting idea that imo
            Seems plausible certainly.

I think the counter to that is that one aim of systems/tactics is to minimise the impact of individual mistakes.

I think it was this sort of sniping that Alex was asking to be cut out. It would be appreciated if everyone could concentrate on discussing the topic(s) at hand and try to leave out the point scoring.

FWIW I agree with some of what Lec is saying but it's definetely not as simplistic as 'getting us organised defensively'
In other systems yep, under Hodgson it was achieved very quickly and it's not rocket science, tuck your full backs in, don't leave too much space in behind, always have a holding midfielder and get your wide midfielders to tuck in and work back.

                  Ridiculously simple stuff.

Under Rodgers and this is the part that some struggle with, we aren't poor defensively - as a stand alone defensive unit with Wisdom at RB and Johnson LB we are actually quite solid, where we struggle and this is where I agree with Lec is in the transition phases, we are poor defensively when we lose possession and that is because his system is set up on a rotation of positions, if we (normally Gerrard or Suarez) give a careless pass away that leaves several players out of position and we get punished.

Lucas will solve some of that, a greater understanding of the system and the triggers within our possession which will get better every week will improve it also.

I honestly have to say I don't get the criticism of Rogers from anyone, he became manager of a piss poor PL team that had just wasted £80 million.

If, and it's a massive if because IMO this time next season we will be a lot better but if Christmas time next season we're still struggling then start to have a look why but again my opinion based on what I have seen is that we will be top 6 minimum next season, pushing top 4 the season after that.

all this talk about the system, strategy, plan, etc anyone would think brendan rodgers had invented football.

i remember watching rush chasing defenders around their defensive area and pressing them into making mistakes and them loosing possession. nothing new about the idea of pressing the opposition and trying to win the ball back quickly in the opponents half.

yes, maybe it hasnt been being done as much as it should have been, but lets not just assume that players are having to re-learn how to play football from scratch. there should be no big issue with players adopting a more "defend from the front" type of attitude, rather than get all the bodies back behind the ball.

I don't think that is the problem. I think it is about the way players have to be making movements to make angles for short passes when we have the ball and then rapidly change to thinking about pressing. If you aren't looking to play such a short passing game each player has fewer decisions to make each game. You see from the Barcelona youth products what an advantage being asked to do the same things from an early age is. It seems reasonable to me to go the other way and say that you might expect players new to it or bought up have to make different (and probably fewer) decisions per game to be less adept at it for a while. To me it isn't about being able to do it, so much as doing it as an instinct.

fully get what you mean. if there is better pressing from the front when possession is lost then we are much less likely to get split apart by clever balls into the open areas vacated by the attacking full backs. this then allows some time for re-grouping further back.
the short snappy passing and moving game is also nothing new. it might be a little alien, not instinctive, to some of these players, but work in training and so on should have them improving. i see players doing ok with this, but as fatigue sets in they seem to revert to type and become a little less controlled. this is where the captain and senior players need to be getting the players to hold their shape and cover the open areas, and the manager needs to make his changes to add fresh legs and minds.
mistakes often come not because a player is physically tired, but because his is mentally drained.
