    Based on what though?

This is one of he biggest jobs in world football. I know we're nowhere near where we once were, but we're still a massive club, and if one good season in the premiership is all it takes to sit at the top of this club then it just goes to show that we're being run by people who seem to be far too happy to take risks.

My fear is that Rogers talks the talk (as he has shown, and is why he got the job) but will he walk the walk? His managerial career is very hit and miss, and very short.

Again, I stress, I'm not concerned about the result on the weekend, my concern is how a man with his experience ever found he his way here after such a short managerial time. How will he deal with things when he goes through a bad patch? How will he cope with the pressure of expectation? Nobody knows because he hasn't been in the game long enough or ever sat at a club like this.

I'm so concerned about how the club is being run by FSG at the moment and the direction we're going in.
I can see where you're coming from and I sort of agree.

Rodgers wasn't my first choice but I'm cautiously optimistic. That could well be down to his talk though - he does seem to do good PR I think. It's a risk given his mixed managerial results and his relative lack of experience, especially as he seems to have the freedom of LFC (with the plans for a DoF coming in being scrapped).

Too early to judge but time will tell. I just hope he can walk it like he talks it. I suppose whoever we brought in the summer as manager would need time, and Rodgers is no different.

Saturday was massively disappointing, but Shankly's first game was a 4-0 home defeat to Cardiff. Imagine the outcry if the internet was available then!

I am not in any way saying that Rodgers is as good as Shankly, or the next Shankly, but just trying to highlight that we need to give him time. I really like him as our manager and think he'll surprise us all.
          Excellent post.

          Time is exactly what's required.

I'm not talking 5 or 6 games i'm talking a minimum of three entire seasons to get us into a position whereby we're challenging for the league title again.

This season progress would count as a top six or seven finish with players buying into Rodgers philosophy.

Next season progress would be challenging for a champions league place with continued refinement of the Rodgers system.

Third season progress would be champions league qualification and a possible title challenge.

People watched us hammer Gomel eleventy nil and got more than a little carried away. We're an average team with a few very good players in it. We're currently a long way off a league challenge.

I think BR should realistically be looking at getting the same sort of points or more than Rafa did in his first season with us 58 for 5th place, we're undoubtably starting further behind than when he took over so if we can manange that and hopefully a few more I think he'd have done ok.

Probably not really what I want us to be aiming for but I am trying to be realistic.

              Totally agree with that mate.

One of our biggest problems is that our best players are hampered by different factors. Suarez is an outrageously good player, but he misses as many chances as he creates. Agger is great, but can be injury prone in as much that it would be no big shock if in the next few games he sustained an injury that kept him out for half a season - and just to make things worse, Skrtel only fulfils his potential with Agger beside him! We can't rely on Gerrard as much as before and Lucas has just come back from an extremely serious injury.

Time is definitely what is required. Give it to Brendan and I believe he'll give us success.

I don't think we need much more to realistically compete with other big clubs.

We need a decent winger, good poacher type of a striker and AM if possible.

We could have that for about 45m give or take.

If we sell Carroll, Adam and Downing we should be able to fetch 25-30m which means FSG would only need to spend additional 15m which would be about the same in total (They spent about 40m last year) what they spent last year.

Difference is we landed a big Warrior contract and with significant cut in overall wage bill FSG could and should sanction spending little bit more coz the tradeoff could be significant for them.

If we make it into CL they will be able to recuperate big chunk of their this year financial outlay just by us being in a group stage.

The pay-offs to Dalglish, Clarke and Comolli would've drained us further.

We could do with a Montpellier style season to help us.

shouldn't have sacked the first two on that list then.

Ok, fair point(s). Anyway, being sacked hasn't stopped a whole load of too managers learning and improving their trade. It will all be fine, we'll keep being average, but hey, that's fine. It's fine.
