I don't think that's enormously fair to be honest.Originally posted by Lecter View Post
I was reading an old LFC book the other day and it had a quote from Joe Fagan that is very apt in regards to how I view the current side under Brendan
We are hungry for possession, we are not hungry for it just so we can hold on to the ball. We only want it because you can't score without it
The issue, for me, is the squad. There's no goals in it. Take Suarez out we have no regular goal scorers whatsoever. For me it wouldn't matter one jot what manager we had right now and how they were trying to play, we still wouldn't be scoring enough.
I see nothing wrong with the philosophy Brendan is trying to impart, and I don't see it as being at all inconsistent with that quote from Fagan. The problem is that 2 of the front 3 positions are being taken up by players who either due to age/stage of development, or due to ability, are not goal scorers. And now Gerrard has gone from a 15 goal/season to a 5 goal/season midfielder, neither are any of the midfielders either.
Now if we give Rodgers proper time to build a squad as he wants it and this problem remains, then by all means we can hold him to account for it. But at this stage viewing the problem as him specifically, despite 4 managers in 4 years having failed to get consistently adequate performances out of this group, is unfair.I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

This is just about spot on. LFC are heavily reliant on kids who should be getting an introduction to regular league football sparingly - the squad is threadbare and with what we have, a decent 11, there is very little room to move anyway. Sure there are some baffling decisions, but we don't know exactly what the man has in mind when he is making his decisions - there may be attributes or talents a certain player is or isn't showing away from the match day that we will never see.Originally posted by MrMichael View PostI don't think that's enormously fair to be honest.

The other thing I'm tired of reading is the ridiculous maxim that "he only knows one style of play" - its just bollocks. The way we played against Everton last time around bore very little resemblance to the supposed tiki-taka only mentality. Its just lazy. FFWD to the Newcastle game, remember the assist from Enrique? Direct from defence over Suarez's shoulder.
There is a transition going on and I think we're just going to have to live with it just now.
Its not easy, but its not just football management that has lead us to where LFC are just now.

There is no doubt that the reason why we're struggling so much is the weak and paper thin squad and it is true that Rodgers wasn't given much money to address our most pressing issues and clean up the mess left behind from previous managers .Originally posted by MrMichael View PostI don't think that's enormously fair to be honest.

That said I do think that questions need to be posed about his people management skills and some baffling decisions in regards to the existing squad.
I didn't think he handled Carroll's situation the best, Coates completely disappeared under his watch, Enrique was given lot of criticism even though he was injured, Downing and Cole are "told" they can leave and yet they are featured more than many players that he gave a lot of praise.
Furthermore, Assaidi, his signing, has not played at all, Suso after signing the new contract cannot get near the starting lineup, Borini, another of his signing, was played primarily out of position and regularly subbed very early in the second half and that couldn't help his confidence, Robinson cannot get any close to first team squad and so on.
I think it is way too early to properly judge him and I do think he needs time but I do have concerns about his long term future with our club.Last edited by Mostar; 17-12-12, 09:47 PM.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

I can't believe he made the comment about how he was pleased about how his first 6 months have gone and the comment about City
Keep your mouth shut until we are above them, Rogers and the players all took Saturday for granted and we got punished.
They better all buckle down and put in a performance against Fulham and will Rogers stop talking to the media about everything they don't need to know Sterling and Allen need a rest that should stay internal to the club, in my opinion he needs to not be so open with the press.
Concrete on winning games and sorting out the team as the midfield and forward line need sorting out."All I'll ever do is all I've ever done in any job, and that's promise to fight for my life for the supporters and the people of the city"

What was shocking about the Villa performance was that had it been the displays that LFC fans have grown use to seeing over the past couple of years it would have been 0-0 or 1-1, we have been fairly toothless in attack for a long while, but the defence which imo should be the strongest part of this current side was absolutely shocking for all three goals.
Benteke was made to look much better than he actually is with so much time on the ball for the 1st and 3rd goals and while the flick he plays backwards is a nice bit of creativity, who the **** was following the run of Weimann?
Lucas obviously is not fully match fit yet, but imo the squad still hasn't properly replaced javier mascherano.
Villa's defence had alot more energy about it compared to ours, which at times looked nonchalant.Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

As much as we were all expecting the wheels to come off, I'm sure some of us started to get into "what if" territory looking at our run of games into January.
I couldn't see us losing to Villa, and whilst the performance is a carbon copy of many in the past few years, I'd actually started to think that we were making solid progress.
Rodgers says its a one off, a freak result. I'm not so sure, but I'll see how we do in out next few games before I moan.Forwards.......

I applaud a manager when he says something that motivates the team, but its all a bit Rafa like when we collapsed and let the Mancs in. All well and good mouthing off, but it must be backed up with results.
Spot on Danny, personally i'd much rather he adopted the quiet approach. The 2nd place comment was a real school boy error.
I suppose we will have to wait until January to see if Rogers and the scouts have been doing their job. Excited,Nervous,Wary etc the joys of being a LFC supporter

he could say whatever it takes to motivate the players in private, but then going public with a 'we could finish second' but then bending over for villa...
removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.
