Good luck to you Brendan, but by God, did you come out with some belters

    20. “After that opening 10 or 15 minutes, when they had a bit too much space behind our midfield, it was the near-perfect away performance.” (After losing 2-0 to Zenit St Petersburg)

    19. “The last 18 months we have been on a magic carpet ride of development but we still have a lot of growth to make.”

    18. “When we lost at Stoke last season I got home on Boxing Day night and family and guests were all around the house. I went straight upstairs to my room and didn’t come out.”

    17. “The problem with being a manager is it’s like trying to build an aircraft while it is flying.”

    16. “Joe Allen is one of the most courageous players I’ve seen.”

    15. “I am the same guy who nearly won us the league, but better. I think I have shown in the early stages of my management – without being arrogant – that with a talented group of players I can compete at the top end of the league.”

    14. “I use a quote with the players, “Per aspera ad astra”, which is Latin for ‘through adversity to the stars’.”

    13. “We play with 11 men, other teams play with 10 men and a goalkeeper.”

    12. “I started coaching for one reason and that was to make a difference for people, not just as footballers but as human beings.”

    11. “I will leave no stone unturned in my quest – and that quest will be relentless.”

    10. “They don’t have to sell. (Southampton) have a choice. Maybe Southampton’s objectives have changed. They were looking to be a Champions League club, I believe.” (Made in August 2014, with Liverpool finishing two points above Saints come May)

    9. “I always say a squad is like a good meal. I’m not a great cook, but a good meal takes a wee bit of time. But also, to offer a good meal you need good ingredients.”

    8. “There are two points: the first is I don’t feel any pressure, I can honestly say that. I have never felt anything other than secure.” (Rodgers was sacked within an hour or so)

    7. “I’ve always said that you can live without water for many days, but you can’t live for a second without hope.”

    6. “I believe a young player will run through a barbed wire fence for you. An older player looks for a hole in the fence, he’ll try and get his way through it some way, but the young player will fight for you.”

    5. “It’s not just about training players, it’s about educating players. You train dogs.”

    4. “When you’ve got the ball 65-70% of the time, it’s a football death for the other team. We’re not at that stage yet, but that’s what we will get to. It’s death by football. You just suck the life out of them.”

    3. “If you spend more than £100 million, you expect to be challenging for the league.” (On Spurs after they sold Gareth Bale in 2013, spent £103million and finished 6th. Liverpool sold Luis Suarez the next summer, spent £117million and finished 6th)

    2. “I think there’s three players who will let us down this year — the cause, the fight, everything – and I have written them down already in these three envelopes. Make sure you are not in one of the envelopes.”

    1. “My biggest mentor is myself because I’ve had to study and that’s been my biggest influence.”
"I will make the boys feel your support"
    Jurgen Klopp June 2020

Massive blame has to lie with whoever left us starting the following season with only one world class striker. With Cout and Sterling on hand did we need both Markovic and Lallana and therefore only have £15m left to spend on replacing the league's best striker (and also probably demoralising our young stars in the process)? We threw away all the progess we'd made when we should have at least been consolidating. Considering that **** up, for some of the season BR made a decent job of winning when he had no quality goal scorer to call on at all. I don't know if it was BR's fault or the TC, but whoever's it was should have been sacked or disbanded in May for wasting a crucial season in our history and massive opportunity to get back up there that had been handed to us.

Annoyingly, Rafa had done exactly the same thing when he got us to second (having built his way up to it) and we started the next season with just Torres, but that was probably more to do with not having funds available.

              BRENDAN RODGERS STATEMENT

“I am, of course, incredibly disappointed to be leaving Liverpool Football Club. It has been both an honour and a privilege to manage one of the game’s great clubs for the last three years.

“I have worked every day to represent the club to the best of my ability, to develop both individual players and a team that the club’s magnificent fans can be proud of. There have been some very memorable moments during my time at Liverpool and I would like to thank all of the players for their hard work and commitment. The current squad is one in transition, but they have some real talent and are showing a strong sense of togetherness. I expect to see them continue to grow and develop over the coming weeks and I wish them and my successor well for the rest of the season.

“Liverpool has a magnificent football heritage and I have nothing but respect and admiration for the history, tradition and values that make the city and the club so exceptional. As well as my players, I would like to thank everyone connected with the club; Fenway Sports Group, the Liverpool Directors, in particular Ian Ayre, my coaching staff, the staff throughout the club, the volunteers, the Academy staff and its young players and of course the amazing Liverpool fans for their unwavering support, passion and dedication which has made my time at the club so special.

“Finally, I would like to give a special mention to John W. Henry, Tom Werner and Mike Gordon. They gave me this great opportunity and even though we will no longer be working together I am sure our relationship and friendship will continue into the future.”

Good luck to him. Regardless of how things turned out I think he really 'got' the club.

I think its a bull**** statement, aimed at himself and any future employer and the **** he peddled the fans with far too much bull**** to ever 'get us'. Nice fella though

Almost any manager could have got us close with Suarez in the side that year. One of the world's best during his peak season was the deciding factor, the other stuff not so important, if at all.

It's says all the right things, but ultimately it smacks of the polish given by a PR agency, and lacks the sort of detail that would make it feel truly personal or heartfelt.

Getting sacked sucks though, so he's done well to release anything at all, and maybe creative writing is not his thing

He should probably prepare himself for the fact he will never see John Henry or Tom Werner again.

In your opinion. Belittling Rodgers achievement that season is a bit pathetic to be honest.

He almost got us to the title that year unfortunately for him he didn't manage to maintain that with Suarez being a key factor but not the only one
