Reminds me so much of Mats Hummels in that they share a similar, almost effortless, style of playing. Certainly played in a very Hummelsesque manner at CB yesterday. Even looks a little like him facially.


If Can can bring something similar in terms of quality to our midfield (or backline) that an inform Hummels brings to the backlines of Dortmund and Germany, then we will be laughing about his £10m fee just like we did about Alonso's.

Of course it's possible, it's awfully difficult though to make certain every 10-20mill player you buy will turn out to be of potential Can quality, for every 1 Can there's 20 Borini's.

But yeah it's do'able, just not easy or probable.

The timing was also right with the transfer. Bayern let him go for cheap because they were looking to buy him back in a couple years, they didn't expect him to develop so quickly and we got him at the right time.

We did the same thing with Arbeloa, good player but not required at Real. Sold him for pennies to Deport with low buyout clause and we took advantage.

I think the Can is proving the making of the third centreback role as much is the role is proving the making of Can -- if that makes sense.

I'd like to see Ilori used as one of the three centrebacks if the formation is still in use when he returns.
