I think this is probably the correct decision all things considered. The only concern though is how sour things seem to have gone for him at Lille. He's only young but he needs to tough it out there, it's a test of character for him.

This way he can join us for pre-season and take his time to settle. If we'd brought him in now the expectations on him (especially considering his poor form) would have been too much for him IMO.

Ideally I'd like to have loaned him to Derby or something to replace Ibe, but sadly that wasn't an option.

Oh man, we'd better seriously have other options then (Ibe is not the other option).

Sturridge coming back might be reason enough to not bring him in now. On paper we have:

        Lambert
        Borini
        Balotelli
        Sturridge
And a couple of strikers in the reserves.

They are all competing for 1 position in the team more or less, and one that Sterling have filled this season and Markovic could as well. So basically if we can't get the squad size down it's to expensive getting in a new striker.

I don't think we will. Unless we move someone on i.e. Borini or Balotelli I just don't see us bringing in another striker especially with Origi coming in this summer.

Also who is out there that represents good value at the moment, this window really is a sellers market on the whole.

I think the main reason is Lille being unable to secure a replacement.

I still think we'll get him towards the end of the window. Once Lille know we aren't desperate, they'll lower their demands and it wil suit both parties.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

The point is they need him. They are very short up front as it is. Unless they get a replacement in I can't see any reason why they'd let him go easily.

I don't think we are desperate anyway and I'm sure they know that.

Yes, but he isn't performing for them for whatever reason so it's in their best interest to replace him. They thought we were desperate to get him, so dug their heels in, one they accept we aren't I think they'll accept a lower offer and use it and the wages saved towards getting a new player.

It’s just a hunch though, based on noting official.

They won't have time to replace him if they release him to us at the end of the window. I think that's the point. If we wanted him in they had to get a replacement in first. They haven't so they are very unlikely to let him go now at all. It's not about us being desperate, it's about them being short up front and facing a possible relegation battle.

I think the potential early move to us has affected him. Hopefully now that's not an option he will knuckle down and finish the season in good form for Lille.

Regardless of whether or not he was coming to us, I’m sure Lille were already considering the idea of replacing him in January or adding to their squad, I don’t think it was totally dependent on Origi coming to us. If that’s the case, they’ll want potential sellers to think they are keeping him so they don’t appear desperate, likewise they’ll want us to think they still want him to drive the price up. I’m pretty sure they’ll think they can improve on a 3 goal striker this season and if they can squeeze an extra few quid out of us in the process, then I’m sure they’ll try. Obviously it may not work out, signing players in January isn’t easy, but for now I think I’ll ignore anything I read in the press about the situation as I’m pretty sure behind the scenes it’s a different story.

He's injured at the minute isn't he?

I think we should be looking elsewhere. Maybe Ibe is part of the answer. Borini also seems capable now of 'doing a job' or something approximating it. I'd like to see us loan someone with pace and an eye for goal but I think it's unlikely at this point.

Terrible news. How many goals do Balotelli, Lambert and Borini have between them? Can't be more than 5?

6 goals between them in all comps for Liverpool this season.

4 of those 6 were in the league.

Remember when Suarez scored 4 in the home game v Norwich last year?!?! Never seen a player play so well in a game......every time he got the ball you'd feel like he was going to score. Ruddy made some good saves that night as well..... One man in one game = Lambert, Borini and Balotelli over half a ****in season....

That's absolutely piss poor, unlikely any of our strikers will get into double figures.
