You know, I read this article in Der Spiegel today about a DDR-Germany shot putter from the 70s called Rolf Oesterreich. In a local tournament, he threw a world record, 22.12 metres. He didn't belong to any big institution, he just pretty much chucked the ball in his own little sports club, teaching himself how to throw. He used the 'American' style of throw (ie. twisting). Even though 5 official referees had attended the tournament and it was thus a valid scoring, the German highest institution discarded the record. The story is long-winding, with him trying on his own to beat the huge mighty 'FA', ended up with his giving up his career, he nearly even made it to the Olympics, they faught hard to destroy him.
And then I look at Suarez. And obviously it's not the same, but the DDR athlete was obviously being racially discredited, they destroyed his career and he never had a penny to his name. Suarez is a multi-millionaire. And although it is no excuse, there are many other sporting injustices that get little to no lime-light in the media. I also recall the attempted suicide of a female Indian athlete, who stunned people in a 200m run (something of the sort). They then demanded a gene test and although she had tits and fanny, apparently some hormons weren't right. So **** happens.
I'm not happy with the verdict at all, but in instances like this, a higher justice will prevail. Always has done, always will do.
I agree.
