The manager is definitely an intrinsic part of the team and as such should be of the same nationality as the team. Importing talent on the managerial position is not in the spirit of international competition and shouldn't be allowed IMO.

Carragher didn't seem to mention cheating here; would he have been so keen to impress the likes of Steve McLaren or Harry Redknapp?
Jamie Carragher is hoping to impress Manager Fabio Capello.
Jamie Carragher admits the opportunity to work with Fabio Capello was a major factor in his decision to come out of international retirement.
The Liverpool centre-back had seemingly brought down the curtain on his England career in 2007, but was convinced to reverse his decision by the Italian and was named in the Three Lions' 30-man training squad for the World Cup.
And the 32-year-old says he was desperate to work with Capello having followed the Italian's illustrious career at AC Milan, Roma, Juventus and Real Madrid.
"The chance to work with Mr Capello was important in my decision to return to international football," said Carragher.
"He has been one of the best managers in football over the last ten or 15 years. I'm a big follower of football and I was always asking Steve (Gerrard) what it was like when he came back from international duty, asking what the manager was like.
"So the manager was a massive reason behind my decision."
And Carragher admits he is fully focussed on using his time at England's training camp in Austria to prove to Capello that he is worth a place in the 23-man squad that will travel to South Africa.
He added: "Hopefully over the next two weeks I can impress him both on and off the pitch, and then hopefully I can get into that squad.
"As a youngster, playing for England is what you want to do, so the chance to try and get into the final squad was one I couldn't turn down."

Probably not as they are ****ing crap. Doesnt mean he has to think a foreigner managing England is right though.Originally posted by BootRoom View PostCarragher didn't seem to mention cheating here; would he have been so keen to impress the likes of Steve McLaren or Harry Redknapp?
Not sure why you are dragging up an interview thats over a year old either.

It demonstrates his hypocrisy; on the one hand he says that having a foreigner as England manager is a form of cheating, yet on the other he says that the foreign manager in charge of England was a massive reason why he returned to the international fold. Isn’t it obvious?Originally posted by Chris View PostProbably not as they are ****ing crap. Doesnt mean he has to think a foreigner managing England is right though.

Not sure that it hasn't been part of the international scene for long enough to be part of the culture. I think it is or at least has been useful for a number of developing nations. I guess we have arguably reached the point now where it is holding back coaches in a lot of places now - for instance you very rarely see an African nation with a manager from that country.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostThe manager is definitely an intrinsic part of the team and as such should be of the same nationality as the team. Is there anyone in football who isnt a hypocrite? You'd be in uproar if Rooney cheats to win Man Utd the game in 10 days but delighted if Suarez done it to win us the game.Originally posted by BootRoom View PostIt demonstrates his hypocrisy; on the one hand he says that having a foreigner as England manager is a form of cheating, yet on the other he says that the foreign manager in charge of England was a massive reason why he returned to the international fold. I'd say its common sense rather than hypocrisy anyway. I think the national team should have someone English in charge but if I was in that team I'd much rather go to the world cup under Rafa, Mourinho or someone with a CV.
Not sure why this is such an issue for you anyway. Ooohhh a player might be a slight hypocrite, kill him!!

It seems to be a bigger issue for you since you're the one who is jumping all over it.Originally posted by Chris View PostIs there anyone in football who isnt a hypocrite? You'd be in uproar if Rooney cheats to win Man Utd the game in 10 days but delighted if Suarez done it to win us the game.

Edit: On the cheating point, you've got a bit of a nerve to say that I'd be delighted if we cheated our way to victory; don't judge everybody else by your own standards.

You are the one who's been trawling websites and posting an article from 2010 to declare a club legend a hypocrite yet its me with the issue?Originally posted by BootRoom View PostIt seems to be a bigger issue for you since you're the one who is jumping all over it.
Welcome back by the way.

I didn't 'trawl' the web; I remembered his quote about working with Capello and at the time I was surprised by it, then a did a simple google search. It's not difficult.Originally posted by Chris View PostYou are the one who's been trawling websites and posting an article from 2010 to declare a club legend a hypocrite yet its me with the issue?

Now if you would like to debate the substantive issues without getting hysterical with lines like "Ooohhh a player might be a slight hypocrite, kill him!!" I'd be happy to discuss them.

What issues? There arent any apart from you trying to make up a few out of nothing. I wonder what your occupation is?!Originally posted by BootRoom View PostI didn't 'trawl' the web; I remembered his quote about working with Capello and at the time I was surprised by it, then a did a simple google search. If you want to debate his ability or lack of now then by all means but if you are expecting me to join in calling him names because he'd prefer England to have an English manager but still respects foreign managers then I'll pass thanks!

It's obviously pointless trying to 'debate' with you; I should have realised that from the manc build up thread.Originally posted by Chris View PostWhat issues? There arent any apart from you trying to make up a few out of nothing. I wonder what your occupation is?!

By that token the domestic clubs should be managed only by the domestic managers and players in clubs should then also be only from the countries of origin.
In reality it should be the best man for the job irrespective of nationality.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Although he's not likely to admit it now is he? What would the fun be in that?
