Sterling has talent, and he looks to have the sort of potential that if realised could see him become a genuine top class player, but that talent and potential is worthless to us if he wants to leave and if staying means all he offers us is more of the sort of performances that we saw from him from about mid January onwards.
If he wanted to stay and wanted to work his arse off to make himself the best that he can be, then that would be fantastic, but all we can go by is what he shows us on the pitch and what he has shown there in the second half of the season suggests he has no interest in sticking around.
If is was a case that he mouthed off to the press but still was putting in the sort of performances on the pitch that backed up his mouth, then that would be a different story, but he has not managed to follow up his talk with the sort of performances that would lend weight to his comments.
