Sky sources understand Sterling indicated it would be in everyone's best interests if he did not join that tour.
His fear is that his presence on the tour would take the focus off the manager and the new players, believing that it would be better if he stayed at Melwood and continues to train.
.......
Bless. He's just looking out for his teammates!
That'd be fine if he was training but the dullard failed to keep that side of the bargain
Honestly I don't buy in the slightest that this is about Rodgers. There are many things we can criticise the manager for, but the way he has handled Sterling's career over the last 3 years has been the model of how to bring a talented young player through, playing him plenty but protecting him by pulling him out of the limelight when his form dipped, allowing him breaks mid season, defending him to the hilt when the whole "tired" thing happened for England etc. Sterling & his agent had obviously decided what they wanted to do with this contract renewal well before his relationship with Rodgers appeared to sour in public, and I do ask how on earth any manager was supposed to handle the whole saga without the relationship deteriorating?
I don't believe even slightly that had we changed manager Sterling would have signed a new contract by now, not even a tiny bit; what was his agent insulting club legends and saying he wouldn't sign for a million a week all about if the issue was with Rodgers personally? Nah, quite conceivable that they aren't getting on any more but logically I see that issue coming after he had decided to force a move, not before.
I don't think it's about Rodgers either
IMO it's solely about money, if it wasn't he would forego his loyalty bonus and hand in a transfer request
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."
All we need is for Sterling to turn up at city's training ground odemwingie style and being told by LFC to get his arse home as no fee has been agreed.
It's been said for a while he will move on if City offer £50m. Clearly City will not be offering that or he'd have no need for all this reported rubbish that's gone on. I can't see anything other than a further low ball offer.
And that's when this mess will get even dirtier. Can't see this being resolved before our trip to the Far East.

Yep, it's already been said, as it's clearly what's happening.
Complete ****ehouse tactics from Sterling and Ward, and to an extent, probably City.

We'll get £35-40m now I'd say.
In all honesty we've done similar tactics as a club, but the way it's been played out in the media is what the issue is. I just know he will have a good season for City as well and tie Lovren & Moreno up in knots when we play them.
for me, the best way out of this might be to do a player part-exchange..... if they made it something like Jovetic +£38m, then I reckon LFC would accept it at this stage.
