Come on man. He's not played in that postition for the first team. In fact I don't think he even played there for the reserves. It was at youth level where he played there and even then I think it was prior to the long injury he had (he was out for 2 years I think)My kebab comes with chilli sauce

relax for ****s sake lads i know he hasn't played at CB for first team, but he is naturally a CB and hasn't ever had the chance to play there because of Carra. He has been used as a make shift RB, in which he has been superb IMO.
Kelly is an old style English defender, big lad, quick and good on the ball. Don't see why a very talented young defender beside Agger is such a hilarious shocker, regardless if he hasn't got first team action there.
Clearly playing RB and playing CB for the first team is very different, but he has good defensive instincts. IMO Skrtel isn't going to leave anyways, but having such a talented youngster sitting permanently on the bench won't do him or us any favours. I'd much rather give Kelly a shot at CB as he is a good natural defender and is familiar with our defence, than buy likes of bang average players like Dawson,Tomkins etc.Last edited by danperkins; 22-06-12, 04:04 PM.

I don't think he's quick at all. Once he gets going he's not too bad/slow. He's not very good in the air either or agressive. I wouldn't say he is an old styled English centre back all. Andre Wisdom is though. Strong, aggressive, quick, good on the ball and a great distributor. He has much bigger potential than Kelly IMO although he has not yet played for the first team (hence my use of the term potential). I think Kelly is quite overrated to be honestOriginally posted by danperkins View Post

To be honest i really think you'll be in the minority with this opinion of kelly. He's no slouch and has been up against pacey wingers and from what i have seen he has coped pretty well as regards pace. In the centre pace is not as much of an issue as it is playing full back.Originally posted by saj View PostI don't think he's quick at all. Once he gets going he's not too bad/slow. Yes Wisdom looks very good, but the step up into the first team is a massive difference. Kelly has made the step up,with 24 appearances and just gone 22, and is only being kept out by England first choice RB who cost us millions, and IMO and most other LFC fans from what i can gather he is a huge talent.
As regards his aggression i disagree with that, although i do agree he must improve in the air and i have no doubts with his height he will. Sure Skrtel was terrible in the air up until this season.
Anyways IMO Kelly has all the attributes to be a top defender, whether it be RB or CB but i feel he is at the stage where he really needs to be playing regular football to develop.

Why? Has Skrtel definitely said anything on the matter?Originally posted by greenbloodred View PostAgent talk it may be, but I think his commitment to LFC is questionable now. If 20m+ offer comes in I think club should sell. We've lost better players and he's not irreplaceable
Maybe he wants to stay and maybe he doesn't but I think you're jumping the gun..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Think dww bolded it because i never said an old style English defender, i said an old styled defender.Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Posti think dww meant to pull out this bizarre nugget:

And as regards my comment old styled English defender, i meant as in he is no nonsense, no frills or fancies but i solid and dependable. And IMO is decent on the deck.
Personally i think Skrtel will be still here next season and is just fishing for new deal.

dww meant old-style English centre backs were useless on the ball so he was suggesting your post contained an oxymoron.
And no prize for guessing which two syllables need emphasising.
CLUE: It's not 'oxy'.

- being **** in the air does not maketh a good centre half.

Well you're not really in a position to judge him then are you.
