Fair way of summing up. He is capable of being excellent, and IMO is a very good centre back but the moments of rashness still occur and I dare say we need even better than very good....especially given the way we play and leave our CBs more exposed than most. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Maybe we need a 'scapegoat of the match' to balance it outOriginally posted by Chris View Post
This constant "He's 3rd in the MOTM table, proof he's amazing" stuff is bizarre. First off, you can have 10 great performances, 20 **** ones and be high up because of how the points work. Secondly, this apparently accurate table has Martin Skrtel ahead of Steven Gerrard and miles ahead of Daniel Sturridge and Aspas who started 5 league games above Flanno who started 23.
I'm going to dare to disagree with the table and say Skrtel hasn't had a better season than Steven Gerrard or Sturridge. Aspas and Victor Moses havent had better seasons than Flanno. Thirdly, this great MOTM table didnt seem to mean much last season when Perkins spent the summer slagging of Reina's season who come 4th in this incredibly accurate table or Kolo Toure earlier this season despite the fact he was 3rd in January but now it means everything. Hypocrisy and desperation, got to love it.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Don't think that's completely down to Skrtel.....more of a collaborative effort from the CBs, Gerrard and, annoyingly, the keeper.Originally posted by john316 View PostSell him now whilst his price is likely to be at its highest. He is so average it's painful.
Newcastle away, a completely needless foul out wide, then on the free kick not even sure what he was trying to do here, ball was there to be headed away but he just barges their guy instead, goes through to Dummet? who scores.
Everton away, a bit similar to Newcastle, rather than challenging he's more into barging around when he should win the header, drops to Mirallas and goal.
Hull away, scared to come forward v Livermore, backs off, gives him all the time in the world so Livermore takes it and scores. 2nd goal, looks like Toure is going to head away comfortably until Skrtel comes over, gets in the way, they collide and Hull end up scoring. 3rd, he's dragged out wide but backs off, and off, and off until he's nearly on top of Mig then nods it to his own net, though the own goal part was just bad luck in this situation.
West Ham home, another own goal, defending way too deep.
City away, pathetic marking on Kompany for the 1st, more interested in grappling than doing his job. 2nd goal all he has to do is stay with Negredo and let Sakho chase Navas but he leaves Negredo giving Navas a simple pass to put him through on goal and score.
Chelsea away, abysmal marking on Samuel Eto'o who puts in the winner.
Stoke away, backs off and off Charlie Adam before a half hearted close down at the end goes straight through his legs and in to our net.
Fulham away, ball straight in behind him, he's in no mans land their guy crosses it in for Kolo's comedy own goal. 2nd goal, Flanagan is going to deal with it but no he tries some daft clearance and it goes straight to Richardson who taps in.
Arsenal away in the Cup, goes for a ball on a set piece, completely misses it, lands to Sanogo, shot blocked and Ox scores the rebound.
Swansea home, gives away the penalty thats been threatening to happen all season.
Cardiff away, loses Kenwyne Jones who nods down for a tap in for their guy.
Palace away, just completely stupid going for a ball he couldnt get anywhere near, Murray has a simple knockdown to put Gayle through on goal who scores.
Newcastle home, some of his own goals are just unlucky, this was down to dreadful concentration though, days after the manager had a go at the players for crap concentration!
Thats 17 goals I've listed there he should have done better on in my opinion, 17!!! 4 or 5 mistakes a season yeah you expect that, they're human but this is just a ridiculous amount. Interestingly 14 of the 17 are away from Anfield, natural maybe given home teams attack more or a sign he doesnt handle being out of his comfort zone particularly well?
Then theres loads of moments that didnt get punished like Lallana's shot that hit the post, O'Shea's last minute sitter at Anfield, Anelka through on goal at Anfield, mullered by Aguero out wide who passed to Silva who thankfully missed, all his mistakes. It's shambolic, he's had some excellent games along with the bad ones too, scored some massive goals and he isn't the only one responsible on all these goals but it's daft carrying a centre back like this, desperately needs upgrading. Our best defensive performances under Rodgers come last season when he got dropped. 2 clean sheets in 2 league games when he didnt start this season aswell.Spot on.Originally posted by Chris View Post

If we had someone like Sami Hyypia this season, we would have pissed the league.-----------------------------------------------

Mignolet a big factor in that, definitely IMO. Doesn't command his box, hardly comes for anything. I think he's a little bit of a problem tbh. Fantastic shot stopper but I have my doubts.

**** right off with that. Skrtel, Johnson and Kolo are the problems. If we got a new keeper but kept those 3 we'd still leak goals however I believe if we stick with Mignolet and replace Skrtel, Johnson and Kolo this summer we'll be far more solid at the back.Originally posted by Nigey View PostYes, one of the main issues with our defence is Mignolet. He's excellent at shot stopping but if a goalie can't stop most shots, then they probably aren't good enough anyway. He needs to command his area better. He's the weak link in our defence IMO.
Mignolet is an excellent shot stopper that is the foundation of a good keeper, yes he needs to improve on crosses but he's young for a keeper and will get better with time and patience the same way Henderson, Sterling and Flanagn have.
