I'm pretty sure Rodgers pissed sterling off from the very beginning by calling him out on the documentary. Should of done that behind closed doors. For a kid that age with that sort of ego, would of been down hill since.

Sterling is really ****. He's an awful footballer, no end product etc...
We miss him badly. Yes it was an unbelievable amount but he is doing fine at city for a young lad of that age. They've bought potential and there's lots to work on but once he settles down he will develop into a top player for them.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

Sterling openly stepped out of line, why should Rodgers have dealt with it quietly? You think the manager should be seen to let the players talk over him and then just have quiet word about it with them later? Rubbish.Originally posted by vlahka View PostI'm pretty sure Rodgers pissed sterling off from the very beginning by calling him out on the documentary. Should of done that behind closed doors. Probably. Better chance of winning a title.................... and getting the bonus he never would with us.Originally posted by Scratch View PostWhat weekly wage is Sterling on at City? I hear it's an obscene amount....would he have gone to them if the offer was equivalent to what we offered him?

One of their advisors is/was David Dein as they were big fans of the Arsenal model. Anyone will tell you that whilst that model makes money, it isn't that successful on the pitch. Arsenal hung on to that until the stadium was pretty much sorted and now they're looking to move away from it. Wenger obviously struggling to splurge but that's another story.Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Postthe pattern i see emerging is players wanting to go to more successful clubs, and that includes the players we want to replace our departing players with. i'm sure we've had plenty of good offers knocked back by players who want to play champions league football.
Anyhow, that Arsenal model regularly saw their better players leave once they had hit a certain level. The difference is we are not regularly in the CL so players will leave sooner. Sterling would've still been here had we been regular participants in the CL. Even Gerrard would've left had we not been regularly in the CL during his prime years.
This club needs to splash the cash but in a considered way. Neither of those two aspects have applied since Kenny departed. We have wasted huge amounts last few years under Rodgers, but that wasn't the club pushing themselves to what it could spend. That was just spending big amounts due to players sold.
They need to get the right men in and put this club back on the map as a big club. And I don't mean spending what we can't afford to do so ala Leeds United.Forwards.......

Yup. It's grim that anyone give credence to this sort of meandering non-speak. 'probably', 'seems', 'I'm not saying... I probably am saying'.Originally posted by Phoenix07 View PostGrim.

Taking these people literally has only served to encourage them to guess at more random **** based on, well, not a lot. And while I'm reluctant to get onboard Fredo's current peace and love, acid fuelled optimism bus at the minute (partly because as good a chap as Fred is he's clearly on a mini wind up here
) I do agree when these media monkeys potray FSG in any sort of reasonable light it's ignored roundly where as any sort of negative connotation about a them, by someone who business acumen probably amounts to a calculation on the average cost of pies and how much they save on said pies by their place in the press box, is lept upon and treated as near fact.
BollocksA lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Not really blaming. But if you know the players character you generally try to speak to them in a way you think would benefit that individual. Man management. You cant speak to everyone in the same way. Personally Sterling totally deserved it. But thinking he wouldnt get stroppy and have issues with Rodgers down the line? Fantasy. You can read that little **** like an open book. He was never going to stay with us.

you may be right in part but if you think about our best players who have left recently, i don't think we wanted to sell them. even under your model, they hadn't taken the club as far as they could have before they were sold. the fact that we've been unable to lure real replacements with the money we've spent--and let's be real here, regardless of where it came from, we have spent a fortune--is down to our current perceived stature and is going to require success, not just money, to turn around. liverpool has to be a place where top players feel they can achieve something.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostOne of their advisors is/was David Dein as they were big fans of the Arsenal model. Don't try to sound smart. He had a good half season playing third fiddle. Then was pretty average last season missing chances galore (because he can't shoot).Originally posted by Fredo View PostIt is revisionism to say Sterling wasn't that good for us.
Now he's looking the same player for City."When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah
"looking through your posts since 2007 and what you have consistently written about my football team I have come to the conclusion that if you had 1 more brain cell you would be a plant .. your father was a hamster and your mother smells of elder berries, I fart in your general direction ..." Nicey

So how do you get the top players in when you have no Champions League or sustained record of success?
You show them the money, like City had to a few years ago. Its self perpetuating!
