This summer the team and squad need more work than last summer. after spending / wasting over 100m, then this is what could get brendan the bullet. He came out last year after all our transfers and basically said that we'd not need another summer like that. Well guess what Sherlock, we now have players on big wages we will struggle to sell and the club is less of a draw that it was.

It isn't. We've got a lot of wide/in the hole players but only one striker and one defensive midfielder, both with a record of long term injuries. And Gerrard has fallen off a cliff, and won't he here by the summer. We have such a patchy squad and it's that that has cost us. We were in a better position a year ago.

Even when he had the system working, we were letting in a crazy amount of goals.

because we came second it kind of deflected from the fact we leaked goals like a relegation candidate.

i doubt if we will ever score over 100 league goals again in my life time. it was a fluke, like a perfect storm of the right personnel at the right moment. it will never happen again, certainly not something to base our system around.

we need to be more solid defensively, then we can go and score a couple at the other end.
we have rolled over for too many 'lesser teams' but so have many of the 'top teams' too. we need to stop ****ing about with the ball in our half and take the game to the other team. we are **** scared to go forward cos we know we are just too vulnerable to the counter.

if we played 4-2-3-1, or 3-2-4-1 we would be stronger at the back, and still have enough cover in midfield to press and take the game to other teams.

And yet when he has changed the system, those midtable players have got significantly better results, not just once 3 times!!!

Each time he has made the change its been a different system, and all 3 of those different systems have been proven to be more successful than the Swansea system

That should tell us and him enough

Back 4, pick a centre forward from the lucky dip.
Arguably with Ibe breaking through we now have 2 wingers for the first time in order to play his system effectively yet we aren't.

I don't think he's as wedded to it as you think he is.

Coutinho threading the passes through, Hendo and Allen working hard, winning the ball back and passing it simply.

Replace that statement using Davies at LB, Dyer RW, Sinclair LW, Britton for Hendo and that's how he played wasn't it?

The Swansea system is tika-taka aka death by football, IMO heavily reliant on having virtually all players comfortable in possession and then even then you need at least one attacking player who can beat multiple players to create space and panic as well as being able to finish.

Above average footballers will struggle to make tika-taka work IMO. Which is why we've failed three times to implement it. We'll fail the fourth time too.

I dont think he has the right players though

He clearly is wedded to it otherwise he wouldnt keep trying it year on year at the start of every season

I have this nagging feeling that the Swansea system gets you only so far, to take the next step (like we did last year) we have to play a very different way
