Are you seriously using this as an example????Originally posted by 5europeancups View PostIn defence of Brendan Rogers alot is made of the humbling defeat to Stoke the worst since 1963.
Who was in charge then? Some guy called Bill Shankly. Liverpool finished 8th that season.
However on a slightly positive note, Liverpool went on to win the title the following year, and as the cliche goes the rest is history...
I wonder where Liverpool would have been had they fired Bill that year.
Hindsight of course is very valuable but it is worth thinking about the fact that sometimes it is worth thinking about the big picture.
If you pick a man you have to expect that in a game like football where you are at the mercy of 11 men who have too much free time too much money and probably not enough common sense, then expected results do not always go as planned.
It is worth bearing in mind...
Shanklys team was only promoted in the summer of 1962 (after being relegated in summer of 54) so that was Shanks' first season in the first division

I don't think he's lost the dressing room. There have been distractions (far too much made about this being Gerrard's last season - it was never like this in the past - no player bigger than the club etc. He's also got history of being in a strop with a manager and bringing the dressing room down!! {controversialOriginally posted by bonzai View PostThe thing that worries me the most is the possibility that Brendan has lost the dressing room. If that's the case, you cannot get it back. Period. Even if Gerrard and Johnson has gone.
). Sterling being a complete **** and using the media to broadcast it also hasn't helped).
On the whole, I think the players respect Rodgers. He's given a lot of younger players a chance to prove themselves and they have developed and improved.
Rodgers (and FSG) have made major changes to the club over the last three years. Lost big name, experienced players and invested in younger players. It takes time for everything to fall into place.Last edited by Rigadon; 26-05-15, 11:10 AM.Another MASSIVE game

This is how I see itOriginally posted by captainfog View PostIf you look at the squad, the results and standard of play then we are no better off than when Rodgers took over 3 years ago. We might even be worse. Damning.Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

What a strange thing to say, how does that work then, our form since Utd beat us shows the direction we are going.Originally posted by Alex View PostIts not just progression on the pitch I am on about. Progression all over. Revenues growing, turning a profit for the first time in years.
Progression on the pitch is all that really matters, but FSG have got us going in the right direction. Regardless of losing 6-1 to Stoke. Those that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law.
Those that killed her, were following the law.

We might be, but you're using it as a stick to beat Rodgers with like they are the only 2 strikers in world football he'll entertain. It's childish point-scoring of the like that has been dragging this site down for months.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostEverything points towards us going for Benteke and Ings, the press usually has a good handle on our targets. Do you think we are not in for them?
The press have also reported that we want Aubemayang and Lacazette, but don't suppose that fits into your model?I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

Did you read my whole post or just the last part?Originally posted by kev776 View PostWhat a strange thing to say, how does that work then, our form since Utd beat us shows the direction we are going.
I was talking about the whole club moving the right direction. The odd result doesnt matter from that point of view. Its about a bigger picture.*Except Michael, who died.

Only the inner circle of players staff will know whether he has lost the dressing room anything else is speculationOriginally posted by Rigadon View PostI don't think he's lost the dressing room. There have been distractions (far too much made about this being Gerrard's last season - it was never like this in the past - no player bigger than the club etc. He's also got history of being in a strop with a manager and bringing the dressing room down!! {controversial

With regards to things taking time I think there would be more leeway given if there was some green shoots being shown but there isnt
But I think playing people out of position, not playing any strikers, switching and swapping positions etc.. just makes me think he doesnt actually have any real faith in any system or directionBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I still don't think it's a case of him needing to go at all costs though. There has to be a better option in placeI saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

Keep him and let's see what next season brings. What's the worst that can happen? Or perhaps what's the best that can happen if we change? We aren't winning the league with either options as neither manager will have a magic wand. A bit of patience in a world with so little, its asking a lot I know.Always borrow money from a pessimist. The credible links point towards Ings and Benteke, nothing point scoring on my behalf there, everything points to these two plus Milner, we may get someone else in but unlikely another striker. You repeatedly go for the posters and that is also dragging the site down.Originally posted by Fierce View PostWe might be, but you're using it as a stick to beat Rodgers with like they are the only 2 strikers in world football he'll entertain. The press have also reported that we want Aubemayang and Lacazette, but don't suppose that fits into your model?* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
