Nunez could have a leg amputated and he would still never come close to being as **** as Andy Carroll.
Though to be fair to Andy Carroll, this season he seems to have found his true level in the French fourth division.Last edited by Doc_Piptorious; 07-12-24, 12:30 PM.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

He had a very hot season at Benfica where he massively outperformed his xG, he may have just reverted to his natural ability levelOriginally posted by Exiled_red View PostLook at his record
1st season at Benfica 14 goals in 44 games, 2nd season 34 goals in 41 games
1st season at LFC 15 goals in 42 games, 2nd season 18 in 54 this season.
Three seasons in there are fairly consistent Ok here I suspect more of his appearances were from the bench so he might have done slightly better in his time here than his first season at Benfica. But what was he doing in that 2nd season at Benfica? he's gone from about 1 goal every 3 games to 1 goal in every 1.2 games and back again, I know players have hot streaks but not usually a whole season for context that is a similar goals to games ratio as Salah had in the season he got 44 goals for us. Was his finishing so much better then or were Benfica creating loads of chances for him and he was putting some away?

That's a price that was set off the back of 1 excellent season, that's the danger of doing that. We thought we were getting a player capable of 1 goal every 1.2 or 1.3 gamesOriginally posted by rudedog View PostCan’t believe we paid £85m for him. That’s not his fault but it must have been more than double his actual value. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

We know this, and yet there's a large portion of our fanbase that are giddy at the thought of signing Marmoush.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostThat's a price that was set off the back of 1 excellent season, that's the danger of doing that. His xg per 90 is 0.38 this season.
played 90.. 6.87 times.
Expected goals = 2.6
He has scored 2 goals.
Last season
Xg per 90 0.85
Played 90.. 22 times
Exp goals. 18
He scored 11 times.
..............
Based on that his finishing is better than last year, in a side where he gets less chances.
Add his intensity, desire and team effort and he can be an important player...
However.. because he has missed so many great chances, I'll never have confidence that he's the right man to lead the line. Sure he does a decent job, but Liverpool don't need to settle for a 70% striker.

£85M was the fee if he/we hit targets during his time with us. Some of the reported target were winning the PL and CL. So probably safe to say what we paid is about 20m lower than that 85m as think 64m was meant to be the fee before add ons.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Think other than Salah you could be saying the same about every other senior attacker at the club.
Nunez, Jota, Gakpo and Diaz.
One is so injury prone he cannot be relied upon at all as his goals per games record is worthless when he is out so often.
The other three you could point the finger at all of them as not appearing like the type that can play badly and still get a goal that changes the game or that they will be clinical in a tight game with few chances.
And the two that are natural widemen do not get the sort of assist numbers to compensate for a lack of goals outside of streaky patches.
For me Nunez might be very much on his last chance to show he is good enough, but the same should go for most of our other attackers if reliability and end product are the markers we are using.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Taken from FBREF
Darwin Nunez... Goals to shots ratio:
2022/23 0.11
2023/24 0.10
2024/25 0.13
As you can see. He has massively improved from last two season's one goal every ten shots to one goal every eight shots. At this rate he will be hitting elite levels by the end of the decade.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

I think the difference for me is that the benchmark for a strong LWF is pretty much Diaz and Gakpo.Originally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostThink other than Salah you could be saying the same about every other senior attacker at the club.

Then there is Mane who we will obvs compare to. But he played with Bobby and he was a phenomenon, for me better than Salah.
The benchmark for a strong striker is not Nunez.

Mane honed his talent for maximum effectiveness coupled with blinding pace and acceleration. He was pretty much the perfect player for the system. I think he would have scored more goals if Salah wasnt so much the focus.
I think his directness into the box coupled with skill and agility are the things Nunez misees. He is very fast at running in a straight line, but has little control. He seems to he capable of decent balls when static in the box, or when running in hence a decent amout if assists. Ultimately there are better players in all of those situations.Last edited by Charly; 08-12-24, 10:06 PM.In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.
