It's a negotiation between the club and the player/agent. A new tv contract worth millions has been announced and the agents are getting the best deal for their clients. These things take time. I really don't see the need to have a go at anyone until the player emptying his locker as we don't know what is going on.

He is very likely to become captain though.

If they are planning on offering him the role full time he should be paid to reflect it, in my opinion. He may well wait to find out before negotiations go further but I think in the current climate £80k/w is on the low side for a captain of a team aspiring to be CL regulars.

I don't think anyone is having a go at anyone, but I think it's perfectly reasonable to be concerned about these things. If not handled well it can set us back.

Yes it could set us back if he leaves I completely agree but to be concerned about something you know nothing about seems a waste for concern
