Anyway, enough of this negative talk. We are where we are. Going forwards this is why I think Rodgers will have a better season than last, therefore so will we:

    1. Gerrard is gone. Rodgers has undergone the hardest part of his career in seeing out 'the season of Stevie'. We owed him it, it cost us, but its done.

    2. Number 1. above. Cannot state how much this will change how Rodgers plays.

    3. We need goals. Everyone from Linda to the Committee know this. Lots of people's futures are hinging on getting this right. No more Balotelli-like fallback excuses.

    4. No glory hangover. We didn't finish 2nd last season. Foot back firmly on the pedal.

    5. Moreno, Can, Lallana and Markovic will (should) look better now they've had time to settle. Even if one shines as a (goalscoring) superhit it will aid Rodgers immeasurably.

    6. Origi and Ings may not be the answer but they are fast, young legs that will allow Rodgers to play one system and stick with it even when substitutes are required. Couldn't happen with Lambert/Balo. And Borini is way out of favour on account of being a ****head.

    7. Hendo was always partnered with Gerrard, Lucas or Allen. Never a settled midfield partnership as Lucas and/or Allen would play well then get injured. Fcking us up for another 6 games while they got back to being good again, only to get injured again. Now with Milner Rodgers has the 'luxury' of playing in one preferred way and sticking with it (see above).

Edit 8. As reminded by Lec, hopefully FSG have taken or will take transfers out of Rodgers' hands. The one thing Rodgers absolutely stinks at is buying players.

I'm not saying we'll break top 4. I'm not saying we can't challenge for the league either (Get Laca!). What I am saying is we will play better football, for longer. Whether its enough depends on how much others strengthen/settle (LvG). But this season was a one off in my eyes.

A fairer criticism would be good runs don't mean much if you spend the rest of the season playing ****, I dont know why you keep trying to dismiss that actual good run though as if it never happened.
Southampton put us under pressure for more than 10 minutes

The problem is people will bend stuff to suit their agendas

Those pro-Rodgers will point to the run as the way forward with unguarded optimism and hope, those anti-Rodgers will point to the ****e and say its all down here from now on

Are we really blaming the poor season on Gerrard

Because **** me for all him being done he still dug out some points for us in the last few games

There was nobody else manning up and dragging us over the line

If our form had dipped after the run then it might have been understood. For it to monumentally collapse in such a goat**** of a fashion (coupled with some genuinely baffling decisions) is the key issue. Was relegation level stuff.
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

I enjoyed the football when we finished 2nd, but I always had this sneaking feeling it was a year when all the stars aligned

We scored bags of goals from set pieces (we have rarely done that if ever), Suarez banged them in, Sturridge was fit and banged them in

I thought 4th was possible and probable last season, 6th is absolutely unacceptable imo

You and Brendan can dress it up how you want but spending £100m plus you expect something more than absolute regression and its clearly regression based on United and Spurs not getting significantly more points than last year yet still finished ahead of us

Gerrard was the only player providing number 3 in the last few games mate.

With Hendo and Milner being more settled (i.e. no Gerrard and Lucas allowing Mile facking Jedinak to waltz through our midfield for the umpteenth facking time, eh Lecter?) our defence will have better cover.

With Hendo and Milner not being injury prone we'll have a settled midfield. I'm sure most defences would love that. Defending comes from all over the park, not just defenders though I do agree with your general point.

I forgot to add, hopefully point number 8: take all transfers out of Rodgers' hands.

I don't agree. I'm not one for flights of fancy and like to think I stick by my principles (sometimes far too stubbornly) - but I had to have a rethink on Brendan after the semi final at Wembley. I really, really hope he wins me (and the rest of them) back over - but I'm very, very sceptical.

                          FLMAO

We need miles more than Henderson & Milner

We need an absolute dedicated holding player, their energy will help but I dont see them improving things dramatically without strengthening in midfield

For me there is tons wrong with us, one signing doesnt make us ****ing great

We dont defend well as a unit

                          Midfield doesnt protect enough

We dont press enough or compete for 2nd balls (Milner might help this one)

We dont create a huge amount of chances

We dont score a large percentage of the small number of chances we do create

It is possible to play ****e yet still pop up with a few goals tho, which sadly is the story with the last few months of Gerrard'd illustrious career with us.

I'm not a Gerrard hater, far from it, but it was plain to see that he was a passenger in a lot of games this season.

We definitely went on a decent run last season and won a few games, and well done to all concerned

However, I agree with the point, that it really counts for **** all they don't hand out medals for going on a decent mid season run and we really should be aiming for much, much more.

The biggest concern was the lack of ideas from Brendan, and the way we just gave up. I'd say he needs an absolute flyer next season otherwise he is toast. The fence sitters were almost turning against him anyway.

I don't hope he fails, I am just not convinced he has what it takes to turn this situation around.

Without that passenger we would have finished 7th or lower

Theres lots of other players who have been passengers yet contributed nothing
