I heard that too years ago. Not sure how true it was. Not doubting he was a decent man and I knew a few guys who did business with Parry in the early days of premier league and he was a rigght ****, A real prima donna expecting first class, top hotels and tickets for the top events in town.Originally posted by Sarb View Post
Wasn't the reason he didn't get a stake in Littlewoods, the fact that they thought he'd ruin it because he was so useless? I always thought he was a decent man to be honest. I blame Parry more for failing to take advantage of all the commercial opportunities we had. After all, wasn't he the brains behind the Premier League?
I know people say Parry had too much on his plate but he didn't really excel at anything he did. Pretty much every summer he seemed to go on holiday first then return in July to try and buy players. Think it was his inactivity that almost led to Gerrard leaving.
We should have been up there with Utd in the commercial stakes now. It's pretty laughable who inept we were at that_____________________________________
Weak willed, Wank or do they have a masterplan?
Think we have the answer..Slot!!

other big spending teams have also invested heavily in the future development of their youth set up, particularly city.Originally posted by Captain Stu View PostThe FFP is a good thing long-term but, with many of the teams above us, they've already done their spending to get better squads than us and now want to be responsible and prevent anyone from catching them.
This is why our youth plan HAS to work because we're tying our own purse strings so we need this to happen.removing all the weak links makes us stronger

Yeah, that's investing in the set-up, ie, building a new academy, we did that yonks ago and are seeing the fruits of that now with Kelly, Wisdom, Suso, Sterling, etc...Originally posted by baitman View Postother big spending teams have also invested heavily in the future development of their youth set up, particularly city.
Realistically I'd expect it to be at least a few more years before City produce another decent, first-team ready player.
And, for the record, I was talking about the buying of young players rather than the development of them, by that I mean buying players in their early 20's in the hope that they gel and become a genuine force so that by the team they hit the peak in their late 20's - they're world class.

city's youth development project will be like a massive factory. they will cherry pick the very best prospects, of course, and still be able to sell on the more average players to fund the whole operation. its massive.
they can still buy the odd star to keep the team on top.
i know we are building for the future, but we also need to be considering the 'now' or we fall behind.removing all the weak links makes us stronger

he was overworked? did he never think of hiring someone else to help out? maybe a small team perhaps. Isnt this just like any other business would do and exactly what he did at the premier league?

Take it you are not a fan of Parry then.

It is not just about the facilities, is it. It is more about having a pathway to the first team - a strategy in which youth players have the right amount of exposure to the first team and at the right time, and that is where I think City will fail. Even with City's investment in their youth I think we can compete with them on that front with the right people in charge.Originally posted by baitman View Postcity's youth development project will be like a massive factory. they will cherry pick the very best prospects, of course, and still be able to sell on the more average players to fund the whole operation. its massive.
